The year in fic - 2009
Hmmm ... 2009. I wasn't very fannish this year; I tried brief dalliances with other fandoms (Wiseguy, Being Human) but, while I do love these shows, I keep circling back around to SGA in the end.
I posted ~62,000 words of fanfic in 2009 not counting the fics not yet revealed; it jumps to roughly 106,000 words when I add in the fics I wrote for![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
sga_santa and Yuletide. This sounds pretty good except that well over half the fic I wrote this year was written, or at least posted, in the month of December - that kinda puts the year in perspective. I've had a pretty good year in RL, but as far as fandom is concerned, this year has been bloody depressing (except for Writercon; Writercon was made of awesome) and I'm kind of looking forward to a less depressing 2010. Fair warning: quite a bit of the fic I wrote this year is kinda depressing, too. (For comparison, I wrote about 200,000 words of fic in 2008, and that was down a lot from the previous two years because of the general lack of long stories!)

On the other hand, I was also massively busy this year in RL, which did cut severely into my fanning time (noooo!) and probably affected my mood as well; consequently, I have been having a very nice fan-time over the holiday ... and Being Human comes back soon! Also, while I could write a whole essay here about my tortured and conflicted fan-relationship with SGA, I'm kinda at a place right now where I figure that it is what it is, and despite wanting to cuff them upside the heads frequently, I still love my pretty team. So. :)
Also, compared to the year I know some people have had, this year has been an absolute cakewalk for me ... which means I feel awfully petty whining about what is probably nothing more than temporary fandom-related and stress-related depression when I have little else to complain about, and an awful lot of things to be thankful for - including all of you people out there in LJ(and DW)-land. Happy New Year, everybody! Here's hoping for a good 2010.
