Star Trek '09 insta-rec

Still spamming my f'list! And I totally owe answers to everyone who replied to my last couple of meta-posts, but I just had to drop this NuTrek rec (though judging by the number of comments on it, I may be the last person who hasn't read it yet):

How to Avoid Kicking Puppies and Other Valuable Lessons in Leadership by [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 (Gen; rated R for language and innuendo)

This -- I nearly *died* laughing. I don't think I'd consciously realized, until reading this, that the vast majority of Trek fic is usually so serious and so concerned with Important Matters; even when it's humorous fic, it's light goofy humor that doesn't make the characters look like dorks. This, though? It's totally in the style of the screwier sort of SGA fic (well, minus people turning into penguins and sunflowers and such), with the characters being a bunch of bickering, semicompetent misfits who are, uh, totally in character for their movie versions. This is so utterly perfect for how New!Kirk would run his Enterprise. Poor Federation, they don't know what they're in for.

I loved the fic! And your icon is made of win. Is it maybe snurchable? I feel a desperate need for "Karl Urban as McCoy"-icons.

Hugs you for rec'ing this. AWESOME! :)

BTW, *hugs*. Seems we never get to talk anymore. :( Given any more thoughts to writercon?

It's totally snurchable; I don't remember where I got it from, but the proper attribution is on my icon page. :)

One cannot have too many Karl-Urban-as-McCoy icons!

I know! *is sad* I'm still dithering about Writercon, though I'm gonna have to stop dithering and get tickets if I'm going! I just don't know yet. It seems like an awful shame to pass it up, and I was looking wistfully at the programming yesterday ...

You want to go! We will have lunch and have fun and talk writing and we will meet other writers and it will be a blast.

:)

What have you been up to lately? I seem to live on MSN when I'm not working, lol.

Oops! I mean [livejournal.com profile] startrekfic. There is also [livejournal.com profile] tosfic and [livejournal.com profile] st_reboot, and http://star-trek-flashfic.dreamwidth.org/ over on Dreamwidth. My preferred fic of choice in this fandom is Spock/Uhura, so there is [livejournal.com profile] spock_uhura for that. :)

I noticed that Kodiak was writing in this fandom, but most of her fic seems to be Kirk-centric, and that's not what I'm looking to read right now.

i kind of like kirk whump..that seems to be my draw at the moment... but i will check out all those sites as i can't seem to get enough at the moment!
thanks for the links! that's awesome!

Oh, I found it. And she has far too many McCoy icons. tsk

=)

What have you been up to lately?

Working, mostly! At least that's what it feels like. And busy with spring projects.

I *do* want to go ... and it looks like airfares haven't gone up since I checked back in April ... hm...
naye: A cartoon of a woman with red hair and glasses in front of a progressive pride flag. (smil (sga))

Thanks for the rec! Really made me smile. Wah, these characters, they could really sink their teeth into the tatters of my fannish soul if I'm not careful...!
