Supernatural 4x17

... damn you, show! Just when I decide to stop watching, here you go with the best episode in years! Seriously, I loved it; I had a few problems with the big reveal (and the lack of Dean/Sam interaction at the very end) but this is the show I miss, the show that could balance funny and serious and angsty, the show that was unpredictable and fun and even subtle on occasion.

Maybe I'll have more thoughtful reactions later, but for now, I can haz squee? Yes I can haz. *g*

Yeah, it was nice to have an ep not closely related to the mytharc. I rather like having a mix in shows, not the mytharc taking over completely (far too often they are kind of like the blob that way, swallowing up everything). Actually I would have liked it even better had it not some angel causing this (because the message that Dean just ought to "get over" hell is a bit problematic, IMO).

But yeah, it was a fun episode. And it's nice to have some humor without my embarrassment squick being triggered or their unfortunate "rape is funny" plots.

Yeah; I think one of my big problems with SPN over the last couple of seasons is that I'm just not really finding the demon/angel mytharc particularly interesting. So the episodes that I've enjoyed most have been the ones that didn't relate to it in a major way. I'm also starting to feel like they really don't have anywhere else they can go with Sam and Dean that they haven't gone, except to the very dark place where it's starting to look like they're headed. So having them interacting in a very different way in this episode was pretty awesome for me; it recaptured some of the freshness of the first season.

Yeah, it was a breath of fresh air to remember why I like this show:)

It really was! It made me want to go back and re-watch the first season, when everything was fresh and new and fun. I think one of the things that really made this episode work for me was that Sam and Dean's interaction was different -- not only were both actors playing their characters a little differently from normal, but they basically had to get to know each other all over again, and it was neat! I haven't felt like writing fic for this show since the second season, but I'm actually spinning plot bunnies in my head now for a whole "Sam and Dean, demon-hunting office workers" AU. It could work!

Oooh, write eet! And it must have been fun for them to play their characters like new after all this time.

yea, it was a pretty good episode. We were actually betting on the Trickster doing the monkey business for some reason... but it was an angel.

The Trickster was the first thing I thought of, too. They've already had two episodes like that, though, so I'm glad they went with something different (even if I wasn't entirely on board with what they did do).

I quite enjoyed the episode myself - such a pleasant surprise! I almost didn't watch it, but then we had an extra fangirl over who doesn't like to watch it by herself, and so we did, and... it was fun! It was cute! There was nothing cringe-worthy anywhere! And the bit where giving Dean back his memories lowered the saturation cracked me up. Way to be meta, show. *g*

Squee is good. The world needs more of it. Sadly, I'm not getting my hopes up about more squee from SPN any time soon...

I let it sit for several days before I could work up the nerve to watch it -- and it turned out to be so much fun! It felt like season one again! Besides just being a fun, well-written and non-skeevy episode (WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU, SHOW), it also took the well-worn Sam/Dean relationship and made it fresh again! They were so cute, getting to know each other and worrying about each other when they didn't even know why! I'm so tired of ANGST and GLOOM and MORE ANGST; I liked these versions of them, and especially this Sam. He was sweet! And not creepy at all!

Like I commented above, now I want to write the "Sam and Dean, demon-hunting office workers" AU and just pretend that it is the show now. XD It's probably way too much exposure to SGA that makes it seem perfectly sensible to me that this could be their real universe, where they're getting occasional bleedover (in the form of weird dreams and a vague sense that they ought to know each other) from our timeline, but they really are what they appear to be ...

Heh, it was a great episode. I loved it even despite the sanctimonious salesperson/priest turned angel at the end. Oddly enough the line that made me cracked up the most was Dean saying "leave it for health club" in the elevator in the very begining. Still amuses me to think about.

This was a fun episode, only gripe was the last five minutes...but the rest completely made up for it. :) I also really miss the two brothers, going town to town hunting supernatural stuff part of the show...Basically, I do love their monster of the week stuff. Hope it comes back.
