This show still has its hooks in my brain
Rewatching Babylon 5's "Ship of Tears" and (parts of) "War Without End" was definitely not conducive to ending up in the most cheerful frame of mind this evening. It's so good, though.
I also noticed something in "Ship of Tears," which is that Bester's exchange with Sheridan and Ivanova about why he couldn't rescue Caroline is incredibly similar to Londo's with G'Kar re: rescuing Na'Toth two seasons later.
Ivanova: Well, if that's true [that Bester loved her], why didn't you get her out?
Bester: Because I don't have that kind of authority. When I found out she was pregnant with our child, I kept after her to go on the sleepers or join the Corps. We could be together that way. She refused.
vs Londo in "A Tragedy of Telepaths":
G'Kar: Order her release at once.
Londo: I can't do that.
G'Kar: Don't you tell me you can't do that. You're Prime Minister.
Londo: The Prime Minister cannot issue an order countermanding the Emperor. That would be treason, punishable by death. Later, when I am Emperor --
G'Kar: Too long. She could be dead by then.
Londo: Then there is nothing I can do.
Of course what they do from there is very different...
(Other random thoughts about Ship of Tears: there's a neat little bit of imagery when Ivanova and Sheridan are looking out the viewport at Bester's ship where the stars are reflected in the window and thus in their black uniforms; I really like it. I also love how this episode showcases how smart Garibaldi is - he's the one who figures out that Caroline is reacting to the PsyCorps logo and then, later, that the Narn telepaths were intentionally wiped out by the Shadows because telepaths are dangerous to them.)
