Wiseguy fanvid: "Closer to Fine"

Obsessed? Me? No, of course not. I wrote and then deleted a much longer introduction to this vid, because really, who wants to listen to the vidder yakking on and on? I'm drawn to the connections between the main characters, and the ways that they cling to their convictions and beliefs and humanity in the face of a dark and corrupt world; that's what this is about.

Song: Closer to Fine
Artist: Indigo Girls
Fandom: Wiseguy
Footage/Spoilers: Contains clips from seasons 1-3; minor spoilers but no major ones (at least none that should be recognizable out of context)
Notes: Thank you very much to [livejournal.com profile] gnine and [livejournal.com profile] greyias for beta'ing this for me despite not having seen the series!

As usual, please let me know of any problems with downloading or playback.

...This makes me want to see the show.

And is, I should add, a very nicely done vid.

mwahahaha, my master plan is working. XD

... no, seriously, thank you! I'm very glad that you liked it, and I'd be happy to supply links to where the show can be obtained if you are interested enough to try it, because I'm shameless that way. :D

I always knew you were an evil mastermind! Oh noes!

*cough* Um. Anyways. Links would indeed be awesome.

Sent you a PM. :)

Whee, just watched the final version, continue to love it more each time I see it! (And like the ending shot, good choice). We're I think 6 episodes in now. Still very much enjoying it and so VERY anxious to see some of that later stuff! (the snuggles on the sofa continue to get me every time!)

Glad I could be a part of it and um...thank you? curse you? ^_- for a new fandom. :-p *huggles*

Hee! Thank you! :) I like the new ending better; you were right about that! (Edit: although I just noticed the timing is a little off on one section towards the end; dammit! iMovie has only one video track and I bet I knocked it off a smidge while I was adjusting the earlier parts. *tries to figure out if she cares enough to fix it* *decides she doesn't*)

And I'm glad you guys are liking it! I would say I'm sorry to be a total pusher, but, um, not so much, actually. XD

I just wish the rest of the series was easier to get hold of for non-US fangirls, because that's where most of the best stuff is. FYI, if you guys *do* end up watching it on Amazon Unbox (I'm not even sure if you can in Japan anyhow, but just in case), there are a couple episodes out of order and I can tell you which ones. The iTunes ones are out of order too, which is very annoying ... and baffling; I haven't encountered that, in general, with the official releases of much more episodic shows, and this one has so much continuity that it doesn't even make sense out of order!

Sorry but being old enough to remember Wiseguy, I also remember that I didn't like it :D My sister did though. Can I interest you in SeaQuest DSV? I thought the plastic dolphin was a really good actor and I always love Stephanie Beachem.

bwahahaha ... funny you should mention SeaQuest ... my sister and I were just talking about it the other day. That was one of "her" shows; she used to love it and I couldn't stand it. XD We've been on a total 80s nostalgia kick lately -- obviously!

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to get the six year old into SeaQuest. At least then I wouldn't have to watch The Power Rangers! (Frighteningly, I can sing the theme song AND I had a dream about them the other night! I know, the shame.)
The thing is there were some great shows in the 80's. Bad hair and fashion but great otherwise :D

Very nice vid! My little h/c heart wriggled happily every time there was a hospital shot, even though I don't know this series. Also: Kevin Spacey!!SO YOUNG! OMG :-D

Awww, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D This series has some nice h/c ... and yeah, I think it was Kevin Spacey's first role in which he was more than just a bit part!

Hello, I found this through the sportshoes community on LJ. This vid is brilliant!! I really love it. The song is just perfect, with its theme of shades of grey. "Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable, and lightness has a call that's hard to hear" and "The less I seek my source for some definitives, the closer I am to fine" — what could possibly suit the show better?

I love the clips that match the lyrics if you're familiar with the source (doctor of philosophy, never did marry) as well as the more obvious ones. It's really visually appealling, too.

My very favourite part might be Frank sitting in Vinnie's hospital room to the instrumental bit of the music at 2:30.

Thanks very much for making this — I am delighted to have a copy to watch whenever I need a quick Wiseguy fix!

I would love to talk Wiseguy any time!

I was away from home last night and ended up downloading your vid again where I was so I could watch it some more.

Absolutely beautiful. Lots of my Frankie, too.

There's quite a lot of Frank slash out and about and some gen. A lot of the genzines back in the 80s carried Frank stories. Frank is one of my favorite TV characters of all time (he's on Joss Whedon's Top Ten also).

I'm glad you enjoyed my little story. Thanks for the nice words.

Just leaving a comment here too, now that I find you initially posted it on LJ. I'm sorry you deleted your intro, since I'd be most interested! This is such a beautiful and fitting vid. Have just recced it — I have at least a couple of friends who like Wiseguy!

Already said this over at DW, but thank you very much for the rec!

I don't even remember what was in the intro now ... I think it was just a lot of noodling about what I'd meant by the different scenes, but I decided that the vid stood better on its own. I can talk about me all day if I get going! :)

p.s. I do have one piece of fic (http://friendshipper.livejournal.com/175353.html) for the series; I haven't got around to writing anything else yet!
