In other news, spook_me is back for another year!

I'm so glad they're still running it; this is one of my favorite seasonal events and I'll be truly sad if/when it ever stops running. (In spite of my perennial lack of ability to finish fic for it. But I have high hopes!)

Now I just need to pick my monster(s). HELP ME, FLIST HIVE MIND. I am SO TEMPTED by this year's special creatures (evil book/grimoire and pumpkinhead) but also not really convinced that they'd work all that well for Biggles. What should I inflict on them? I keep wanting to do "ghost" and then absolutely failing to manage to write it. Maybe I should request dinosaurs this year?

Ohhhhhhh that's brilliant. Actually I can think of several other excellent variations on that theme - evil logbook, with names of dead pilots, or maybe if your name turns up on it, you're going to die ... or a cursed book of aviation maps that directs you to wrong or nonexistent places ...

There's a brilliant classic Twilight Zone episode you're bound to know, The Odyssey of Flight 33, where the plane keeps on going and can't land, because it ends up in the future, and then waaay in the past before air travel (but with dinosaurs!), etc. You could have a lot of spooky fun with the concept for Biggles and his team. :D

Oh but the comedy potential of an evil book/grimoire, as it tries to tempt each of them into bad decisions for power and gets summarily rejected by everyone on the team (and possibly strung along by von Stalhein),

Or the "oh no angst" version, in which a cursed book offers Erich his heart's desire - fame, wealth, victory, and the death of his greatest enemy. But that's not his heart's desire at all ...

.... At this point I'm starting to have the opposite (but best) problem - too many evil book ideas! I might have to write more than one fic ... (I mean, let's face it, I probably won't, but I COULD.)

I'm loving the cursed book/lying maps/evil flight log... it wouldn't take any effort at all to write this for WW1, come to think of it. And Biggles gets asked to deal with cursed items more than once in canon...

British Museum opens up a packing-case that was sent back before the Crimean War but never properly processed, finds Fascinating Historical Document that someone thinks is an evil book (whether it is or not can remain ambiguous), and adventures ensue as Our Team pursues people trying to steal it/people trying to buy it/people trying to destroy it/museum curators from Country of Origin who want it back for display in Country of Origin (easiest to solve, long-term loans are negotiable)....

I love all of the evil book variations that commenters have come up with! That said, I'm not very familiar with your canon, but from what I've osmosed plus looking through that creature list, I have four words for you:

SNAKE(S) ON A PLANE.

As for how... a rough landing in an eerie jungle for emergency repairs seems to go well, but then your fave/s discover that there's a most unwelcome, and deadly, stowaway, and it makes its appearance at the worst possible time. A series of incidents, including a viper appearing in his cockpit, convinces your fave that someone is trying to assassinate him and make it look accidental; now he has to find out who's behind it. A cursed object has to be transported somewhere by your fave, and whether or not he believes in curses, he sure has been nearly-poisoned a lot since taking possession of it, by everything from a bad beer to a dozen serpents falling on him; is the curse real, and how can it be undone?
