sholio: sun on winter trees (Wiseguy-manly bonding)

(no subject)

I'm really not sure what I want to do with the rest of my day. ... well, okay, what I really want to do is marathon another story arc of Wiseguy (which has swallowed my heart and soul), but my sister is thoroughly burned out on it, so we'll be watching something else tonight. And she's at work anyway. I don't want to read more of the book I'm currently reading because I have a very strong feeling from the none-too-subtle foreshadowing that it's going to kill off my favorite character and stomp on my heart with pointy-toed boots. The SGA crack story from hell is finally done and posted, so I never have to think about it again. (I quite liked writing it; it's just that I thought it was NEVER GOING TO END.) I always fall into "don't feel like doing anything" mode when I finish a story. Maybe I'll work on original fiction. Or write some meta or something for Wiseguy, because I really adore those guys right now.

Oh yeah, and we're in the middle of a snowpocalypse, apparently. The winter storm that buried the Midwest is sweeping over us now; people were talking about 2 feet of snow at the grocery store last night, but they're only forecasting 6-10 inches today. Still, it's snowing heavily, and since we have food and DVDs, I can enjoy the beauty of it without worrying too much about the side effects. I just hope my sister doesn't have trouble getting home from work.

Maybe I'll make some more tea and watch the snow fall.

What I want to do with the rest of my day is read your Arthur fic. However, what I need to do is finish my yuletide story within... less than 38 hours. And since we both know I have a slight issue with deadlines, I really should not be tempted to read your fic :-)

Have I mentioned the sunshine here today? And now it's kind of cold, and by "kind of" I mean I'm wearing a cardigan over my t-shirt. Supposedly, "real" winter is supposed to start next week, so hopefully we'll get rain, and maybe even a thunderstorm, for Hanukkah. I am looking forward.

Oops! Didn't mean to lead you down a wayward path of temptation...

I was just reading the entry about your weather! Yeah, it's a bit colder here. I'm told that this is one of the snowiest Ithaca Decembers in recent memory. Ha, lucky me.

Good luck on your Yule fic! I was sad about not signing up for Yuletide this year, but I'm glad that I didn't because I've had more fun working on stories without that deadline hanging over me. I can't wait for the archive to open, though!

We got around a foot of snow out of it. And now, another foot for you! It's the storm that keeps on giving! *huddles*

You'd think the clouds would be snowed out at some point! How can they have so much moisture in them?

Yay snow you can sit inside and enjoy watching (and I gotta figure the transit there is used to dealing with snow....hopefully your sister won't have any problems).

If your bored and interested I could send you my not-quite-finished-yet RepliWeir fic and you could tell me if I'm doing at all okay with Atlantis canon and characterization. Or you could just enjoy watching the snow, which is probably more fun :)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure; send it and I can take a look! (Send it to the Yahoo email, please.) I think I'm kind of falling out with Atlantis right now -- long story -- but I can certainly do a look-over to see if anything seems off to me.

The snow is not nearly as awful as yesterday's Impending Looming Doom weather reports would have us believe. *g* It's been snowing steadily, but not too heavily, for most of the day; I think there are a few inches out there, but not anything that would interfere with the transit system, I wouldn't think.

I hope I don't offend by posting this here, but I really really wanted to tell you very how much I enjoyed your SGA "crack" story. :) But I do apologize if you didn't want comments on it. *tentatively*

Awww. Thank you! :)

I haven't been turning comments on lately on most of my creative stuff; it seems to work much better for my peace of mind. *g* Especially a story like this, which basically contains everything the fandom dislikes! But I'm very glad that you enjoyed it.

[identity profile] argosy.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I can't wait to read the crack. :) Turning comments off would wreak havoc with my peace of mind, personally, because I need to know that people are out there reading it. But I see where you're coming from, and it's surely more healthy than my (desperate) need for approval. *g*

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I hope you like the crack!

To be honest, turning off comments is hard to do, especially on a long story that I've been working on for a month. I have a certain amount of approval-craving, too! But I absolutely *refuse* to say anything like "Please leave me only positive feedback" because, well, it's the same thing as turning off comments really, isn't it? So I may as well just be honest with myself and turn them off, since I suspect that my f'list, as a whole, will not react well to this story. ^_^

Boston also feels the power of the SNOWAPOCALPYSE! So much so, that it decided to take a poor defenseless Australian hostage. She has been marooned here until Sunday. Poor little elf. Moreover, her flight home, the new flight, is sending her to Miami before LA, so her flights are horrible. Alas.

Happy for me, though. I'm a port in the storm!

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no! Trapped Australian! I hadn't even thought of that ... I hope her flights aren't *too* horrible! At least she has a safe harbor in the meantime.

[identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The flight to Miami is less optimal than my original route home (have to leave at 9 in the morning rather than 4 in the afternoon to make the same connection to Sydney out of LAX), but the good news is that it means that I've got a great excuse to not go into work on Monday (and go in very late on Tuesday since the plane doesn't even land until 8.10am).

Helped the Tipper girl clear the snow from her driveway this morning. I know it's a chore to you guys, but to me it's a "new experience" - hence she now has a "snow pyramid" at the end of the driveway. I will have to get a photo of Cuddles sitting on it.

But it looks like I'll be home for Christmas which is what my family was worried about. So looking good, relatively speaking.

Thanks for the Arthurian Crack Fic - it was a fun read and I totally enjoyed it. :)

You wouldn't by any chance know if that storm is heading towards Anchorage? When we left the theater it wasn't snowing and actually wasn't that cold either. (well 18 F is still warmer than 5 F)

Also sounds like you have a fun weekend ahead of you. :)

Oh that's right! I completely forgot you're out of state. Okay everything makes a lot more sense now. :)

I loved the Arthur fic! I just re-read it and it totally cheered me up.

Although...Teyla the boy kept making me think of one of the episodes of Blackadder...

Awww, thank you. I'm glad it made your day a little brighter.

Never saw that episode of Blackadder, apparently, since it rings no bells. But the comparison makes me grin. :)

Sun's out and I've only got three presents to go! But it's supposed to get stinky hot (http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV10450.shtml) in the next couple of days :(

I wouldn't mind a little summer right now, honestly. *g*

We just got done with snow here. It's all gone now, but the freezing weather remained. It was a little nice yesterday, though.

Working on original fiction is always fun. (I'm almost done with mine!) I'm sure whatever you'll come up with next will be good, though...like always. :D

Happy holidays! And hope you're sister makes it home safetly. :)

I just finished the first chapter of the Arthurian crack and I just had to drop by to say how much I'm enjoying it. This story is so much fun, and and can't wait to read the next chapter. *off to do just that*

(eta:)
I hope it's okay if I rec this. I mean. It made me giggle. It brightened my day. And, crack or not, it had a good plot! And so many great lines that I'd have to quote half your story back at you if I wanted to list them all. My favorite is of course bumbling Sir Rodney, who I wanted to cuddle even harder than usual. But all the characters kicked ass. And I loved that you gave so much screen to Teyla(val) and Guinevere. (Honestly, I have a hard time imagining how anyone could dislike this story... in any case, I enjoyed it and I'm sure others on my friends list will too!)

I don't mind if you rec it. And I appreciate that you liked it. It was a really fun story to write.
