Blue is my very favorite color in the WORLD right now!! \o/

And, wow, your guy can talk. ♥ His victory speech was really something else. Wow. It's quite impressive when you can make foreign socialists feel USA-patriotic. *g*

He's so smart and eloquent and, well, so Presidential! *flails* Poor comedians, they'll have nothing to make fun of now that we have President with a FUNCTIONING BRAIN! :D

He made *me* feel patriotic, and I'm the daughter of a woman who always described herself as an anarchist and had a defaced U.S. flag hanging on her wall. XD (Which is a crime, by the way. I remember being told DON'T TALK ABOUT THE FLAG, IT'S NOT LEGAL when I was a kid. XD ) I don't think I've ever felt this way in my life before ... this warm, belonging, "my country is a GOOD country!" feeling. *hugs it*

I was doing just fine (except for random bursts of squee) until the acceptance speech, and that's where I broke down in tears. Because, YES. I just don't get this way about politics, but WE DID IT and YES and THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE.

IT'S REAL. I just keep looking at pictures on CNN and trying to wrap my mind around the whole idea that this is real, we did it, it really happened. This is our President and this is our first lady and YES. The immigrant's son with the "funny" name -- this is our president, this is the entire ideal that our country is founded on. YES, PLEASE, MORE OF THIS. I am so thrilled to be an American right now!

So much SQUEE!!!! I'm so proud of America, of Ohio (we swung the right way this time!)... It's so exciting, and my eyes are tearing up, and I'm totally not going to be able to go to bed for all the squee I'm feeling right now! :D

I got into work, logged on and checked your LJ straight away (being internetless overnight) because I just had to see your reaction.

I'm not American and I'm really rather cynical about nationalistic politics in general (even in my own country, well perhaps especially in my own country), but after seeing Obama's victory speech, I wanna squee along with you!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! That speech was practically perfect. I don't think I've heard a more inspiring piece of oratory in my lifetime. It was hopeful and yet realistic, it was determined and yet humble, it celebrated a well earned (and crushing) victory and yet gave graceful acknowledgment to his opponents. And when he said "I will always listen, even when we disagree - especially when we disagree.", he pretty much owned me.

If he has foreign cynics like me all starry-eyed like this, I can't imagine how it must be for "the faithful at home".

BTW - the Sydney Morning Herald is already talking about Obama "tearing down the cynicism towards America built up during the Bush-Cheney years". It's like the whole world has suddenly become a more idealistic place.
ext_1981: (Sheppard hand with gun)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I'm a total political cynic, and not someone who tends to find myself shilling for politicians -- so my reaction to Obama has been nothing short of astonishing for me. I've never felt this way about a candidate for office before -- I think he seems like a good leader and a good man, and I'm proud and thrilled to call him my President. I just can't believe he won! It makes me believe in all kinds of warm-fuzzy idealistic sentiments, because he has consistently taken the high road in the debates despite all the nasty accusations and threats leveled at him, and people responded to that; this time, we didn't let the mud-slingers and the haters win.

I'm sure that this feeling is going to wear off eventually, but right now I'm happy and bubbly and I just feel good about my country and its trajectory for the next four years. When Bush talked about the "United States of 'Merica" it just made me roll my eyes; when Obama talks about it, I really believe in it.
