I think based on what I know about your tastes, probably The Dark is Rising would be the best one to start with. It's got a powerhouse opening and is more epic/modern fantasy and less little-kiddish in general feel than either Over Sea, Under Stone or Greenwitch. (Greenwitch has some folk-horrorish aspects I think you'd enjoy, although it is otherwise a fairly weak book.)
