Biggles icons!

I had a request for some Biggles icons ... so here they are, all available for the taking! There are some general biplane icons, a few quotes, and some icons made from cover art. I do want to make more quote icons (probably over cover image art like the "Hark!" one) but decided to post what I had finished tonight. Feel free to nominate any particularly amusing and/or characteristic quotes you might like to see on an icon.

Also, please let me know if anything displays weird. The site I used to use to generate icon-viewing code no longer exists, so I copied it out of an older icon post and updated the text.

Heeeeee! I had a lot of fun making these. There's honestly some pretty nice cover art, as well as a LOT of questionable pictures of Biggles. (And that one bald von Stalhein that still haunts us.)

10 is the Vandal, isn't it? And the Sea Otter is 20, I think. And Marie's castle! And the rooftop chase! These are wonderful and I am definitely going to take some. I feel that there ought to be one with an ejaculation reference of some sort...

There are almost no non-awful illustrations of EvS, apart from some from the very earliest serial version of Flies East, and some from a French edition that I used for my icon on the forum, I'll see if I can find them. Though Marcus Gilbert in the film is very beautiful :-D

These are great! I've enjoyed looking at these. There is some lovely Biggles art work out there.
If they haven't already come to your attention, can I recommend the three illustrated Thames Modern Library books, a large format illustrated by J E McConnell. (Cruise of the Condor, Black Peril, Flies Again). My icon comes from the Frontispiece of Black Peril and is entitled 'The Creek had become an Illuminated Aerodrome.' They are well worth a look.

Similarly, how about an icon reading 'Biggles ejaculated'?

Good eye! :D I would be definitely interested in knowing about any other good art of EvS that you know about for .... reasons ...

I don't think I had entirely realized how much good art there is on the covers of these until I went looking for some to make icons out of! That being said, why are the character likenesses so absolutely dismal most of the time? At least EvS is generally recognizable on the (few) covers where he appears; there are a lot of them where you can only tell it's Biggles by the flight gear ...

Yes, point me to the good art! :D Though I honestly can't promise another icon-making spree; I don't want to get anyone's hopes up and then fail. But I really do love pulp illustration, and the illustrations for these books are really fun.

Thank you. I think the Thames Illustrated books are gifts which keep on giving! I have several icons and avatars from them scattered over the various sites. Your icon from In the Orient is a favourite, too.

You know, I've seen you posting about this for ages now, but never went to look up what it actually is. My brain made the connection to "Wiggles" and seems unable to comprehend that they aren't wearing brightly coloured shirts and singing childrens' songs. >D

It's actually Biggles & Co. I have no idea why they're in a desert.

I was assuming the one behind Biggles is Ginger, but now that I'm thinking about how young Ginger was in that book, maybe it's Algy.

It's nice art on its own, though!

I do occasionally get hits for Wiggles when I'm looking up Biggles on various websites, including the library catalogue. No, search engine, it's not the same!

Although now that rachelmanija has alerted me to the existence of the incredibly suggestive cover of the Red Fox edition of Flies West, I've had to make an icon out of that...
