Fanvid: Falcon & Winter Soldier/Civil War - Zemo - Heavy Stone
I've been working on several Falcon & Winter Soldier vids this year, and wanted to get at least one of them done before the end of the year!
Vimeo's embed style has changed and I had to fight with this a bit to get it to display, so let me know if you have any trouble.

Mazel tov!
I love the recurring image of the rising, falling city. Is at least one clip of this footage from a deleted scene?

Thank you!

The flying city clips are all from Age of Ultron, which was the movie in which Sokovia was partly destroyed. (Which, by the way, I now have far more feelings about than I did when I originally watched the movie! Rewatching enough of those scenes to get the clips was actually pretty heartbreaking.)

Sorry, that was a totally unclear use of deixis! I recognized the destruction of Novi Grad from Age of Ultron (which I think it is entirely reasonable to have feelings about: at the time of seeing the movie, I remember it as a big action set-piece; now it's just devastating). There was a shot early on of Zemo in a gas mask which I did not recognize from Civil War.

Here's the full alternate scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUIrAZZ88rk
It's really interesting to me how the choice of alternate scene implies two different versions of his characterization - unrepentant mass murder in the unused scene, versus killing one person and indicating that he would like the destruction to stop there and only continues because he sees no other way through to his goal.

I am just as glad they went with Option B. I don't think any of the most interesting stuff in TFATWS would have been available after establishing an unrepentant mass murderer.

Also, re: your above comment, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has extremely strong feelings about the destruction of Sokovia now. It's actually a very interesting demonstration of how narrative sympathy is seeded, because in the movie as it originally stood, obviously it was supposed to be sad, but it didn't matter, it's not upsetting on a visceral level. Which it really should be! But it's not. Whereas after watching Zemo's later arc, it becomes abruptly, unutterably tragic without changing a thing about the original movie.

I think it's very true that we're biased by prior events to see certain things in a particular light. It's also why I think certain shows hit us harder depending on when we watch them. I'm 100% sure that the fandoms I'm into now would not be the fandoms I'd have been into 10 years ago, because the issues and things that I find imminently relatable in them now are a by-product of the context I currently live in. It's fascinating to me, tbh, because I can almost see the "oh it's THAT that's hooking me" thread running through it all. XD
