Good lord

I decided to rec Dresden Files fanart for

fanart_recs next month, and I regret deeply that I cannot rec this image of Thomas because I can't find a source or artist for it; it only turns up in pinterest-type places, and reverse image search is getting me nowhere. For all I know it's from some official source and therefore ineligible. But HOMG. I want to make this my phone desktop forever.

(For anyone who hasn't read the books, Thomas is more or less this series' Ward, except more well-adjusted: the protagonist's older half-brother, raised by an abusive asshole, starts out a kinda-antagonist and technically on the opposite side, etc. He's also generally described in the books as Extremely Hot and also ripped.)

My absolute KINGDOM for a live-action Dresden Files adaptation that manages to get far enough along to introduce Thomas, Michael, Molly, and the rest of the extended cast someday.

Also some sort of vampire, if I recall correctly. With a Tragic Love Story of some sort. It's been years since I read it, so the details escape me. It is indeed a very pretty picture.

Hahahaha. Not gonna lie, I really really love Thomas, in both narrative and shallow ways. He does take a while to become a major part of the series, however.

He's one of my favourites. I'm such a sucker for the thing he's got going on with Justine and with Dresden. :D My thing? Why yes.

I just did some digging and the art seems to be semi-official -- it's by an artist named Mika Kuloda (aka Mika Merrylark aka Mika Blackfield).

And thank you - A+ sleuthing! And oh, THEM! That artist is actually one of my first fanart recs for this amazing Harry & Thomas art which appears to be off a purely fanfic account (I ran across both fanart and what I was pretty sure was official art by the same person) - but I did NOT recognize this as the same style!

That art is epic! And yeah, I found that Deviantart and was trying to figure out if it was the same artist or not, the style is just different enough to make you wonder!

No worries - good searching; I wasn't getting anything! That artist has so much good art, both official and (as far as I can tell) not.

I did find art-print sites but couldn't tell if they were ripoff sites or not. Not gonna lie, though: I really want a print of this.

It's an artwork that's definitely fanart, which the artist donated to help raise funds for a nonprofit. If you compare that to, say, fanart posted on AO3 in a fandom auction for a charity cause, it's not really a different situation. So,

ratcreature, could it be used as a fanart rec for the comm?

If Jim Butcher or the publisher asked the artist to create Dresden Files art for charity, then it's not fanart, if an artist that is also doing paid Dresden Files work decided to donate art on their own, then it counts as fanart. If it's some sort of unknowable situation, I'm not going to nitpick. If the reccer thinks it's fanart and it's not obviously not-fanart (like book cover designs that didn't get selected but the cover artist put on their website in a process post or such) I'll trust the judgment of the reccer.

Ah, thank you for the clarification! I thought it was something along those lines but I wasn't sure, and the Dresden Files fandom (as with a lot of comics fandoms) has an extremely blurry line between fan creators and people doing official licensed art - in some cases I really had trouble telling which it was.

My modding approach to

fanart_recs is generally not micromanaging, and I'm not looking to exclude recs based on some arcane standard or anything. As long as the art isn't clearly official endorsed illustrations or promotional material or paid commissions by comic artists for their own works (e.g. Patreon or Kickstarter content by webcomic artists), it's no problem.

This feels like the books that could be easily adapted into an animated feature, so they can get the special effects right

Hahaha, not in personality at all, but his general role in the story, more or less. They are VERY different characters, though!

Molly is great; I loved her from the start, and it was so nice seeing her get a bigger role in the books later on. And I would love an animated version! That would be wonderful.
