So I finished watching Sleuth FINALLY
I had stopped for a long while after Duo'erla's death - I actually did already know she died, but I wasn't expecting it to be that far from the end of the show, and I was unprepared for another 15 episodes without her! But I did really enjoy it once I got going again, especially all the Wang Zhi & Tang Fan stuff, which catered directly to my feels. I'll just drop in a couple of screenshots from my Discord stream-of-consciousness liveblogging at

(Friday night)

So yeah, I really liked it! I was braced for a much less happy ending, but actually I liked it a lot - it's true that it would be more emotionally satisfying to have Wang Zhi with the rest of the group in the capital, but he would be in constant danger if he stayed (especially now that he's changed so much; his character journey is so neat!), and being assigned elsewhere means absolutely NOTHING in the grand scheme of things because they all travel around all the time anyway (plus, lots of scope for post-canon reunions!). Even Jia Kui and Jin San didn't die, who were the other ones I was worried were on the chopping block, and Wuyunbulage stayed with the main group and even got to be seriously awesome at the end, as well as the squad of armed and armored noble ladies, which was BOSS.
Anyway, that was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it!

I was not as invested in Wang Zhi, so his ending didn't impact me as much as it did for some. But I did warm up to him quite a bit and really enjoyed his whole journey.
In my mind, even though he got re-assigned, I think it is not his fate to stay there, and he'll inevitably find his way back into the thick of it, where he does what he does best. *g*

Hee! Yeah, I think so too. He's just not really made to be completely out of the intrigue for long. If he doesn't get himself back in, Tang Fan and Sui Zhou will probably drag him into something whether he wants it or not. XD

It's been a while since I watched this, but YES. :D
And Wang Zhi is my favourite too. He's amazing. I don't really ship him, but I want ALL the fic about him being fabulous.

Oh yes, he DOES seem like your kind of character, now that I think about it! :D
I loved that it wasn't just a one-off thing with the emperor's consort wearing armor and bearing arms to protect him, but she got to badass it up at the end too!

And yes, that was fantastic! I really love what they did with her.
(I would be SO here for more fic about her and Wang Zhi!)

I was wondering if you were spoiled for Duo'erla! ): We weren't and spent like the next 5 eps at least after her death sure she would come back...not that the death itself didn't seem final, but its positioning in the story felt more like presumed dead to us. SIGH if only!
But overall it's so cute, such a fun found family! Also Wang Zhi going off (for now) with his guy in a cage still cracks me up. Wang Zhi you improbable softy!

The whole arc with Ding Rong betraying Wang Zhi was really neat, I thought, because the show allowed these characters to have significant flaws that came from their strengths (WZ failing with DR, Tang Fan with the bombs, etc). The shitty way Wang Zhi treated DR actually had consequences! I love that.

But yeah, you're exactly right that this show came for me in a bunch of ways, especially the found-family aspect, which was really great. And Wang Zhi getting in touch with his inner soft side was just so ♥ ♥ ♥ - although the cage thing is honestly kind of sweet and hilarious simultaneously. XD
(It's so nice to be into something you're into again, even if it's just a peripheral fandom instead of our main one!)

... I will be eternally amused that you arrived at shipping Tang Fan and Wang Zhi together independently. (Especially since the other friend I got to watch this show also messaged me roughly the same impression at one point. XD )

LOLLLLLL I KNOW. I can't even blame you! This was from way back when you were still trying not to say ANYTHING so you wouldn't spoil me! They're just very much to my ship taste even though I don't think they're really my usual kind of ship; I don't know what to say. :D
Wuyun getting to do some hero stuff in the last arc was really great. I will be forever sad about Duo'erla (;__;), but losing her did let him come out from under her shadow and do some stuff on his own rather than being her sidekick, so that was really great! Honestly, as much as I didn't want to lose her, it is kind of difficult to figure out how she would have fit into the ending, and her friendship with TF would have put her in a really uncomfortable place during parts of it - so I wouldn't say it worked out for the best, but it did let the show focus on other complications without having to deal too much with that one!
