So I finished watching Sleuth FINALLY

I had stopped for a long while after Duo'erla's death - I actually did already know she died, but I wasn't expecting it to be that far from the end of the show, and I was unprepared for another 15 episodes without her! But I did really enjoy it once I got going again, especially all the Wang Zhi & Tang Fan stuff, which catered directly to my feels. I'll just drop in a couple of screenshots from my Discord stream-of-consciousness liveblogging at [personal profile] sheron, cut so they can be easily avoided; it's just a general snapshot of random comments throughout the last 10 or so episodes.

So yeah, I really liked it! I was braced for a much less happy ending, but actually I liked it a lot - it's true that it would be more emotionally satisfying to have Wang Zhi with the rest of the group in the capital, but he would be in constant danger if he stayed (especially now that he's changed so much; his character journey is so neat!), and being assigned elsewhere means absolutely NOTHING in the grand scheme of things because they all travel around all the time anyway (plus, lots of scope for post-canon reunions!). Even Jia Kui and Jin San didn't die, who were the other ones I was worried were on the chopping block, and Wuyunbulage stayed with the main group and even got to be seriously awesome at the end, as well as the squad of armed and armored noble ladies, which was BOSS.

Anyway, that was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it!

Yay, Sleuth! <333

I was not as invested in Wang Zhi, so his ending didn't impact me as much as it did for some. But I did warm up to him quite a bit and really enjoyed his whole journey.

In my mind, even though he got re-assigned, I think it is not his fate to stay there, and he'll inevitably find his way back into the thick of it, where he does what he does best. *g*

the squad of armed and armored noble ladies, which was BOSS.

It's been a while since I watched this, but YES. :D

And Wang Zhi is my favourite too. He's amazing. I don't really ship him, but I want ALL the fic about him being fabulous.

Haha, yeah, he's pretty much my type, isn't he? :D

And yes, that was fantastic! I really love what they did with her.

(I would be SO here for more fic about her and Wang Zhi!)

Hee, glad you enjoyed it! I found the last arc a bit muddled but the final conclusion and where everyone ended up very satisfying, one of my more favorite endings for something really.

I was wondering if you were spoiled for Duo'erla! ): We weren't and spent like the next 5 eps at least after her death sure she would come back...not that the death itself didn't seem final, but its positioning in the story felt more like presumed dead to us. SIGH if only!

But overall it's so cute, such a fun found family! Also Wang Zhi going off (for now) with his guy in a cage still cracks me up. Wang Zhi you improbable softy!

I really liked the ending too! (Despite the sadness of having Wang Zhi be all alone again. Like Layla says above it's not permanent in my head).

The whole arc with Ding Rong betraying Wang Zhi was really neat, I thought, because the show allowed these characters to have significant flaws that came from their strengths (WZ failing with DR, Tang Fan with the bombs, etc). The shitty way Wang Zhi treated DR actually had consequences! I love that.

I was so glad Wuyun both got to shoot the bad guy (yes!) and stick around with TF and SZ later ♥ And his interactions with Wang Zhi (with the prison thing) were so interesting. I always like conflicting goals/morals stuff.

... I will be eternally amused that you arrived at shipping Tang Fan and Wang Zhi together independently. (Especially since the other friend I got to watch this show also messaged me roughly the same impression at one point. XD )

This show definitely hit all my competence kinks and having Wuyun be an excellent marksman and being integral to saving the city was so my jam. Especially since he does it just because Tang Fan asks him, no reward needed. I'm so glad we see him with the others at the end of the show ♥!

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one put off when Duo'erla died. I stopped watching at that point, so I'm glad to see a review how it went on after that. It might be due to my obsession with nomadic peoples, but I think that my problem is that after her death, I realized what I really wanted was a show with her as the main character and I just wasn't invested in all the guys.
