Mony Mony (Falcon & Winter Soldier heist AU vid)

The current challenge at vexercises (vidding prompt community) is a constructed reality/AU vid, which happened to hit perfectly right on top of my current feelings about TFATWS, and it seemed like a heist AU would fit them beautifully, don't you think?

The song is a '70s punk cover of "Mony, Mony" that I found while I was casting about for good heist music, by Celia & the Mutations. You can hear the full version here.

A little more nattering about the heist AU under the cut:


I love that despite not really setting out with any particular intentions along these lines, there actually is a story here (everything is going great until it's not, and then Sharon regrets ever getting involved with these idiots) and you can also kinda tell what each character's role on the heist team is.

Sharon: leader/person who gets them their jobs
Sam: tech person
Bucky: muscle
Zemo: "face"/undercover person (also designated team sociopath)

The ships in the vid seem to break down as Sharon/Sam and Bucky/Zemo, again without any particular conscious intent on my part. Actually I suppose my general thoughts while making this was that it's an exes/fuckbuddies kind of thing. They probably all have slept together/are sleeping together for various reasons, though.

Please stop me before I write any of this.

I enjoyed the vid a lot! Episode 3, man, it brought the goods (and like, all the episodes, but I especially loved Madripoor!) I love the trio of Sam, Bucky, Zemo, and the four of them with Sharon. SO many great dynamics to explore there!! A lot of shared history and mixed feelings for sure.

I think a heist AU would be AWESOME. Sharon and Zemo would both be great undercover, though they would bluff very differently. Sam would probably great at getting them out of sticky situations, honestly - very level headed.

I need like all the footage of Bucky intimidating people. The Nagel parts were incredible.

Thank you!! Yeah, it was the Madripoor episode that really made me think of a heist AU (they're at least halfway there already!). I would happily have watched another dozen episodes that was just the dynamic in episodes 3 & 4.

Edit: Also, this was one of those cases where I actually had WAY more footage than I could use in the vid! I really could have used a bunch of the Nagel interrogation and shipping container break-in too, if there had been room.

I'd love to see a heist set against the backdrop of the unresolved tensions - Sam and Bucky's about the shield/Sam not taking it up yet, Sharon vs Zemo (you cost me everything), Sharon and her distaste for superheroes/Avengers leaving her out to dry, Sam and Bucky not trusting Zemo, and of course the Power Broker thing waiting in the wings, gah! All the angles! and still having to work together :D :D
