Expanse 5x06
Scattered thoughts on this week's episode:
• It's interesting to see a moment of vulnerability from Avasarala, since she doesn't have them often.
• I explode in hearts every time Drummer walks onscreen, and she was in fine Drummer form this episode. Her barely contained loathing every time she looked at Marco was great. ME TOO, DRUMMER, ME TOO. "You know who I liked?" 😭😭😭 And picking up on Filip's slip about Naomi!
• One of the reasons why Camina is my favorite is because even though she seems at first glance emotionally untouchable, she's such an intensely loyal person who cares so deeply about the people she cares for. She is Out For Justice for her dead friends, determined to rescue Naomi, and also - I think, from the way she was looking at Filip - aware that Naomi wouldn't want Filip hurt if she can help it. She's just. So neat.
• Sadly, I still find her crew interchangeable and boring. I wish they had more personality. Or any personality. Her girlfriend does a little bit, I guess. I appreciate that they worry about her.
• I'm loving the individual team-up survival stories this season (Bobbie and Alex, and Amos and Clarissa). The extremely different survival issues of Bobbie and Alex in space, and Amos and Clarissa on apocalyptic Earth, makes a great contrast. I'm especially curious what Bobbie and Alex will do next, now that they've escaped and have a working ship. They're a wildcard that could go in any direction. And Clarissa and Amos bonding as killers, but very different killers, is a fascinating dynamic that could also go any number of ways.
• It occurred to me watching Clarissa and Amos in the woods how rare it is to see rural, wooded wilderness areas on Earth in sci-fi. Places like this are almost always on other planets; Future Sci-Fi Earth is usually either all cities or a smoking wasteland. So this is a nice visual change.
It's fun to have a show to follow from week to week, especially one that's twisty enough that I don't know what's coming (not having read the books). I haven't had one of those in a while.
Edit: I decided that if I'm posting about this show regularly, I should have an icon for it. I found some very pretty icons here if anyone else is looking for one, including this one! (They're from seasons 1-2 I think, but are just character icons without any spoilers to speak of.)

I picked the icon mainly because it was imho the prettiest of the available options, and because I could use it without having to worry about spoilers; there are characters I would rather have icons of, but I don't want to spoil characters and/or relationships that haven't shown up yet for most of the people who are currently watching it (not just you, there are a couple other people on my reading list who are in late season 1/early season 2). So it was a good all-purpose Expanse icon that wouldn't give anything away.

You mean Camina's crew is not interchangeable? I cannot even get their names (which isn't always a reflection on the characters, but I think this time it is). She was awesome in that scene with Inaros—just short of really setting him off, but making it very clear what she thought of him.
I didn't expect to like Clarissa, but I'm starting to. I haven't forgotten what she's done. She and Amos are a very interesting pairing.
I always want more Bobbie.
I'm still really eager to get the band back together—including Bobbie.
