Gwen and Ianto become friends throughout season one and after Jack leaves. Long and slow and full of team-building; this is more painful-sweet than fluffy-sweet, with everyone's trauma and broken edges grinding against each other (Owen in particular is really an asshole in this) but it's about all of them slowly learning to work together, with a specific focus on Gwen and Ianto. Really lovely Gwen POV.

Postcards sent back and forth between Gwen and the team during Gwen's honeymoon. This is adorable.

Owen checks on Ianto in his doctor capacity in the aftermath of "Cyberwoman." Perfect prickly-affectionate vibe.

Aftermath of "Countrycide." In continuity with the "Cyberwoman" tag above, but stands alone.

A Trip, a Punch, and Willing by ThisBeautifulDrowning (7000 wds, Owen/Ianto)
Owen and Ianto work a case together after Jack leaves, and Owen decides flirting with Ianto to mess with him is his new favorite thing, but at some point it stops being just to mess with him. Prickly and funny and hot, a great mix of slow-burn friendship and slow-burn fuckbuddies.

This is one of the tiny handful of things I had saved from my previous foray into Torchwood fandom in 2008, and I was amazed it's still online! This is a really interesting, detailed analysis of Owen and Ianto's body language towards each other and the way it reflects their changing relationship in season two.



Also, I recced Dancing in the Midnight Garden in a previous post (really good AU version of season one in which Gwen is an immortal faery) but after I left the author some comments, they're now updating it again, so there are new stories to read!

Hahahaaaaa. I feel as if I am being a terrible influence. It's so much less traumatic now that the deaths and disasters aren't a surprise, though ...

This is true. I can brace myself a lot better the second time round. Be assured though that I won't actually get sucked in if I don't want to - you can continue guilt-free ;)
