Dresden Files!!
So first of all, we're getting not just one but two Dresden Files books this summer/fall, and second, the first two chapters of Peace Talks are up on Butcher's website.
Chapter One | Chapter Two
Not very coherent reactions to the first two chapters under the cut:
THIS IS ALL SO CUTE I COULD DIIIIEEEEEEE
I am a huge sucker for not-very-domestic characters being domestic, and these chapters, especially the second one, hit my domesticity kinks like whoa. I really hope the amount of Thomas in the first two chapters means this will be a Thomas-intensive book, because it's been a long time since we had one of those.
And finally, if only for a little while, things are fun again. The last few books have been so heavy and dark that a whole chapter of Harry and Maggie and Thomas and Mouse being a family hit my soul like a sweet soft balm.
BABY SPIRIT SKULL IS TOO CUTE
Maggie clearly isn't one of the people who knows that Thomas is Harry's brother, since she's not calling him Uncle, and that makes me a bit sad, but she does obviously like him. Everything with Harry and Thomas brother-ing at each other! Harry trying so hard to be a good dad! And something is clearly wrong with Harry, and Thomas being worried about him is A+.
I gotta say, I wasn't really looking forward to Peace Talks because I was expecting a lot of politics and not a lot of core team, but now I am dying for the rest of the book. If all of it lives up to the promise of the first two chapters, it might be right up there with the books from my so-far-favorite part of the series (the run of books from about 6-10, basically). I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS ONE.

Though unfortunately the German Amazon doesn't seem to offer the UK edition for preorder, which bothers me because for all the past books I bought as hardcover when they came out I picked those because those were slightly cheaper here, and they are sized a little differently than the US hardcovers, so now my OCD-ish tendencies balk at switching to the US edition...

Dresden!
I agree with everything in your review, and can't wait to see where the books go. (Based on past experience with the Fomor and the title of the second book, I'm guessing the talks don't go very well.)
Thank you for sharing.
Re: Dresden!
Hahaha, I KNOW RIGHT? Oh, you know what I was just thinking about - that one side story with Justine and Marcone and the Fomor. I forgot that Justine actually has a history with them. That should be very interesting indeed. :D

I still have them all here, in hopes that I can read them again. But not yet.

But yeah, this is the problem with being a writer, reading others' books. We can't turn off the inner editor part of our brain!

That sounds extremely cute.
I'm basically in this series for Waldo Butters.
