Fic rec

I just read this today (after having had it on my to-read list for months) and I loved it completely.

The Complexity of Daily Life by [livejournal.com profile] teaphile - (NC-17, OT4, about 35K words)
Despite the rating and pairing, this is much more plot-focused than romance-focused, and the sex scenes are very oblique. It's a gorgeous, sweet, occasionally painful "lost Atlantis" story, with the surviving expedition members having to settle into the Pegasus galaxy permanently after Atlantis and Earth are lost to them. The everyday details of this adjustment process are developed wonderfully, on both the Atlantean and Pegasus-native end of things, along with the character dynamics between the main team as they deal with the fact that Earth rules no longer apply to their changing relationships with each other. I can't textually express how much I loved the depiction of John's sexuality here, and I wish there were more stories out there like it.

... also, in the process of copying fic to my laptop to take with me on vacation (yeah, I'm not exactly roughing it), I discovered that my saved SGA fics folder is 46 Mb. That's 46 Mb of plain text, because my usual thing for saving a story is to copy-paste it into a plain text window. That's a lot of fic.

LOL! That's a lot of fic, but that means you'll have so much to enjoy! Happy reading!

Well, that's just the ones that I've already read! It's my comfort-reading folder. I like to take it with me on vacation. I think it might be time for a culling, though. (hahaha ... okay, that was probably only funny to me.)

Have fun on your vacation! I can't wait for next week to be over! Big Bang will be done for the most part and EM will be all posted by Friday.

Next weekend will be the first time I don't have some writing/editing or 'something' hanging over me.

You going to the woods, beach or something cooler?

Thanks! I'm off to the woods -- I grew up in a very rural part of Alaska, and I'm going back to see my mom. (They do have electricity now, so I can recharge my laptop. Still no running water, though.)

Good luck with your Big Bang! *cheers you on*

The complexity of Daily Life, I started reading that yesterday! (I stopped though, I thought that the deaths were glossed over a bit too quickly; but after reading your review I'll finish it. I wanted to read it because of the depiction of John's sexuality, and I hadn't come to that part yet. :-))

Have a great trip and watch out for bears!

The deaths are hard to take, and yeah, they do gloss over them pretty quickly. It was the only thing in the story that bothered me. But I'd say it's definitely worth it, and the John parts are wonderful.
