Atlantis and cultural imperialism

There's a really interesting discussion on Atlantis and the way they relate to the inhabitants of the Pegasus galaxy going on over here (with a spin-off post here -- not many comments on that one, though). I don't think about this stuff all that much while watching the show (on purpose, more or less) but it's interesting to sometimes let myself go and get all political about it.

Too deep for me :)
I kinda get annoyed with the all-american outlook (no offence) sometimes but the show is American so what should I expect. I love the characters and the international characters are pretty spot on. I think the actors might have some input there.

Heh, I can definitely see how the American focus could be annoying. When we're watching Doctor Who, my husband and I giggle over how EVERY alien invasion always starts in Britain -- because it's the center of the universe, of course! And we're well aware that this is no different from how American TV and cinema deals with the U.S. (Though actually, it's kind of funny because SGA is actually Canadian -- it's filmed in Canada, and most of the actors and production crew are also Canadian, which makes it extra strange that Jewel Staite's character was made an American! Not only does the show not *need* any more Americans, but she has a Canadian accent. Very silly.)

*hangs head* I can't tell the difference the between American and Canadian accent. It's got me into trouble a few times :D
