The

hurtcomfortex tagset continues to be the gift that keeps giving. I've been saving the more interesting top-level tag juxtapositions that have come up as the tagset and consequently the juxtaposed tags are constantly shuffled by new tags coming in.

Putting them under a cut since some of them may contain violent, sexual, or potentially triggery material. I swear these are all real ones that came up randomly.

There's a whole story in each of these:
Character Forced to Reveal Past Trauma → Characters Sharing Mutual Dislike Become Telepathically Linked; Slow Learn to Cope/Like Each Other
Character A becomes legal guardian of sibling Character B after death of parents → Character Conceals Terrible Personal Cost Attached to Using Their Superpower
Trauma Recovery and Learning How to Person Properly With the Help of Patient Love Interest/Family → Werewolf AU - Hurt and vulnerable werewolf at the brink of death is found by comforter
Searching for injured partner/friend who was left behind → Soulmate AU - Soulbond Forms During Moments of Extreme Empathy
Unsuccessfully hiding an injury → Wingfic - magic wings permanently broken from corruption

These are good combos anytime:
Recovery From Drug Addiction → Sick/hurt character doesn't want to accept help
Beatings → Character acts casual about their scars from childhood abuse
Held Captive by Criminals → Hurt/sick character isn't quite lucid
Comfort after nightmares → Comforting with Kittens or Puppies
On the Run with a Sick or Injured Partner → Recovery in Hiding
Awkward Comforter → Catching Hurt Character as They Collapse

Or just unexpectedly iddy:
Whipping → The Worst Person Is Also Comfortee's Only Hope
Drug withdrawal after captivity and forced drug addiction to break character's will → Forced To Relive Trauma for Mission Report/Debrief
Physically Injured Character Giving Medical Instructions to Save Their Own Life → Reconciliation

And then there are the more unfortunate tag pairings:
Impact Play - inflicting pain until character breaks down in much-needed emotional catharsis → Left for Dead
Comfort Sex → Consumption
Family Disapproval → Gunshot wound to the abdomen
Lactose Intolerance → Medical Problem Can Only Be Managed With Regular Penetration/Fingering
Stomach Ache After Losing Eating Contest → Time Loop - Reliving Events in Order to Find a Happy Ending
Character Cradling Sick Character's Head In Their Lap → Character Must Resist Urge to Devour Lover

I love how sometimes the tag juxtapositions suggest a fascinating little story that you'd love to read, and sometimes it's just like "nooooo, those do not go together AT ALL". XD

Okay, I just looked at it and saw Gunshot wound to the chest -> Hot tea for the hurt character, and now I can’t stop giggling.

I love when you get two tags that are fine on their own, but then you put them together and it turns into oh no what even. XD

My RP partner and I have been absolutely mining the tagsets from this and a couple other exchanges. Turns out our ids are a lot more compatible than we realized. XD

IKR? I have multiple documents of saved tags from these exchanges for writing inspiration. It's awesome.

hurtcomfortex, idproquo, tropefest, smut4smut - those are the four we hit and so much fun in them. Hell, I copied them all, made a HUGE spreadsheet, and am in the process of dividing them up into areas of interest. >.> So easy to find 'what should happen next?' when there's a list to go to. XD

It's just SUCH an amazing resource. :D I have a bunch of incredibly badly organized documents with random tags from a variety of exchanges posted into them. I meant to make a proper speadsheet of last year's H/C Exchange tags but didn't do it - perhaps I'll get it done this year!
