Vid rec

Today I ran across this unexpectedly hard hit to the nostalgia feels: a Person of Interest vid set to Bon Jovi's "It's My Life."

I think it hit me in the way that it did because this was one of those songs that was used for approx. 50 million action-feelsy anime vids in the early 2000s, including a couple I really liked, combined with a show that I watched the first couple seasons of (and really liked at the time) but haven't thought about much at all since probably around the time this vid was made (2014). So the one-two punch of a nostalgia song plus a nostalgia show that I haven't thought about too much ... it was just - fun. I really enjoyed it.

I also appreciate how a decade and a half of non-exposure has made this song go from "That again?!" to "Awwww! Nostalgia!" I kinda want to make a vid of my own to it now, honestly.

(You know how many times I started to type an apology or disclaimer for my own musical taste into this post and stopped myself? Too many times. Yes, I like this song; I'd had a bit too much of it circa 2002 or so, but I like it, and I really like vids set to bouncy pop songs - they're one of my favorite kinds. Don't let anybody tell you that your music is wrong or that you can't like the things you like.)

Man, there were like THREE Stargate vids to that song. I get nostalgic just hearing the title.

I'm always completely surprised with the "apparently we need to apologize for liking X" things because I'm often someone who always liked X and never realized I was supposed to feel bad about it. XD As in the case of this song!

Thanks for the vid rec! Really made me want to rewatch PoI!

Also, I totally feel you about the "vid music judgy" thing. I have on more than one occasion won a charity auction for having a vid made for me where the vidder then says they can't work with any of my music requests -- they don't literally say "because that music isn't edgey and alternative and hip enough" but I can tell that's what they mean.

I made it to 1:30 and there wasn't any Carter. Can you spoil it and let me know if she's in there at all? I don't wanna keep watching only for her to never be in the vid...

Ah well, thanks for the info. (Weird to leave her out, given that the vidder used so many clips from those first three seasons.)

I really never got the "your taste is SO BAD if you like X" thing. It seems mainly to serve as status bullshit and gatekeeping. As long as people don't try to push me into liking something ("HOW can you NOT LIKE X???") I don't care what they love, and that's true for books, movies, shows, most things. (I did not read Harry Potter for like an actual DECADE because everyone was pushing me so hard to read it, and was so completely judgey when I said I wasn't interested.) Taste is subjective.

Awww I totally know what you mean! Especially with songs that get vidded a bunch. Placebo's "My Sweet Prince" hits me with a massive wave of nostalgia for mid-2000s H/D fandom :D

"Call Me Maybe" is a bit like that too - it was so overplayed but I also associate it with that great Tony Stark/everyone vid (one of [personal profile] such_heights'? Or am I making that up?) and in a decade it'll 100% be one of those for me. I suspect Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy" is gonna be one of those songs for a lot of people, actually, it must be much-vidded by now.
