Just realized I never did this one. Being my usual style of episode review, i.e. nothing like a review, just whatever made me squee. And, wow ...

This episode was GOLD. I think the only thing that detracted from it somewhat was that it was such an *utterly* blatant ripoff homage of Mudd's Women from Star Trek: TOS that I cringed every once in a while, early on. But soon I was having too much fun to care.

You know how I went utterly fangirl-crazy for the Rodney-Sheppard-Zelenka cafeteria scene in "No Man's Land"? Well, same deal with the Catwoman conversation here. Mainly because fanfic is full of Rodney and Sheppard having these sorts of conversations about various geekstuff (Trogdor, Buffy, Dr. Who) and now, OMG, it's canon. Be still my heart! As my sister pointed out when we discussed the episode, too, they've been really letting Sheppard's honorary-geek side show through this season. I'm definitely getting the feeling that these sorts of scenes are what TPTB meant by "more character moments" and, oh, I am loving every minute! (And I had already been using the publicity shot from that scene in my userpics -- finding out context, and the fact that they're having a Batman geekout during that scene, just delighted me to no end!)

Sheppard's expressions throughout this whole episode were priceless. Especially loved him trying to lean away from Drugged!Rodney with that hilarious WTF??? wide-eyed expression. And then the look on his face of utter horror when Carson starts sobbing in the puddlejumper ... gold, I say, GOLD!

The matter-of-fact way that Rodney says "... and Ronon held me up against the wall" just cracked me up. So much of this episode was funny mainly because of the way the actors delivered their lines and the body language. They really all got a chance to play off one another in the best way.

Rodney giving Sam credit for the spacegate idea was neat. That's one of the cool things about Rodney -- he really does give credit where credit's due, whether it's to Sam or Zelenka or Sheppard, and while he may sometimes be totally obnoxious about it or couch it in the form of a joke, he doesn't ever try to take credit for ideas that aren't his.

And the scene at the end -- OHGOD. And Sheppard deserves it, too, considering how he's obviously been making everyone else's life hell (and wasn't Beckett's reaction to Sheppard's teasing in that scene utterly priceless?). Another thing that my sister pointed out is that this is yet another example of the comfort level between Sheppard and McKay, because Rodney has no compunctions whatsoever about messing with Sheppard in that way (though I'd love to see Sheppard's reaction when it wears off -- and there's always the possibility that Sheppard's just messing with Rodney right back, and isn't under the influence of anything). It's such a sibling thing!

The fact that they let Mudd Lucius go at the end, despite him knowing so much about Atlantis AND having a mind-control drug AND obviously having no compunctions about using it ... that surprised me. True, they were releasing him to the justice of his homeworld, but STILL. (It does kinda lend credence to the idea that they got rid of Sora in Season 1 by simply letting her go somewhere ... though I'm highly amused by the idea that she's still down in the bowels of Atlantis somewhere, and they have to remember to feed and walk her every once in a while.)

EDIT: Oh, and? The hair comment to John? PRICELESS! I love it when they make fun of his hair! (And Ronon's too, later.) Heeheeheehee!

It was SO much fun and such a wonderful antidote to the darkness of the last couple of episodes! Even the serious ones have their fun moments, but they don't make me want to go back and watch them over and over again.

Oh, and I forgot to mention how much I loved Rodney doing the "marmot" thing with his hands! That was another of those "just about wet myself laughing" moments. Which this episode was full of.

I'm so glad to see a totally optimistic LJ post about it! LOL!!

How about that bit where Rodney says that Ronon held him up against the wall, and the way that Shep's attention SNAPPED to him?

I keep watching this. I haven't watched a SGA episode this much since GuP!

It seems like the fandom can take itself so seriously sometimes~! I mean, I obsess on tiny details as much as the next person (LOL) but in the case of both this and Pegasus Project, most of the negative reactions seem to be from people taking what are basically bits of throwaway humor in the episodes and making a big deal out of them. I do think everybody's entitled to their reactions and I don't want to dump on anybody for feeling the way they feel about it ... but it's just ... some of the criticism seems to come from WAY out in left field. And I can certainly poke holes in the episode -- there were certain aspects of the plot that didn't make a damn bit of sense. But it was just so much fun I didn't care. It kind of reminds me of that line about Casablanca -- that the movie doesn't make any sense at all, but it moves so fast you don't notice.

I think I've watched the Catwoman scene about a dozen times already ...

And KOLYA! *dies*

I actually AM trying to avoid spoilers for this season, but I've picked up a few things here and there ... mostly by way of whetting the appetite.

Glad someone else liked this one. It was dark humor which I love. One of TPTB had even said he was suppose to be Muddish. Harcourt Fenton Mudd is where Star Trek:TOS hits the sublime (that and Tribbles). I was looking forward to this ep and it delivered.

Know this is a little late but, just was glad to see someone else who liked it.
