Reactions to SG1 10x03 - Pegasus Project
Unlike a lot of people (apparently), I don't have a negative reaction to the idea of SG1 and SGA crossing over. In fact, I like it. And there were aspects of this episode that I absolutely loved.
The conference room scene -- OMG SQUEEEEEE. And Sheppard giving Mitchell the lemon ... ahahahaha. (Also Rodney's hasty qualification: "Actually, we're very close..." which, considering the context, can be taken as either pure wishful thinking on Rodney's part or actual canon gospel ...) And then later, on the Odyssey, where Mitchell basically admits that Sheppard praises Rodney in the official SGC mission reports ... EEE. Hewlett and Tapping are a pleasure to watch, as usual -- and Zelenka, we got Zelenka! And then, leaving aside SGA for a minute, I really loved the little scene in the beginning with Vala, Mitchell and Daniel on the Odyssey ... and HEEHEEHEE at Vala's reactions to Atlantis and the ascended Ancient. I've only recently become acquainted with the Vala character, but I'm loving the HELL out of her. I never really liked Claudia Black's Farscape character, but my Vala love knows no bounds.
Where the episode really failed for me is that there was no real emotional impact, and that was so sad because SG-1 has always been very successful at bringing home the emotional punch-in-the-gut, when it tries. This episode, was fun and light and entertaining, but fell very flat emotionally -- and that made me sad, because it had so much potential. Especially with the part where Teal'c is back at the Milky Way gate and the Pegasus people are having to risk blowing up the gate -- there was SO MUCH potential for a little scene or two that delved into some of the changes in Rodney's character since "48 Hours" and in the Rodney-Carter relationship and the way it evolved through his SG1 episodes ... but none of that materialized. It wasn't JUST that I was hoping for Carter-Rodney scenes that never happened, although that was a part of it. The whole episode didn't really have much emotional impact at all. There was no catharsis, no really neat character moments -- from an emotional standpoint, the episode could vanish and have no impact on any of the characters' lives, and that's very sad because both SG1 and SGA have a LOT of episodes that aren't like that at all. The fact that they crossed them over and the result, though amusing, was kind of unimpressive ... leaves me a bit depressed.
But still. THE LEMON. Hee.

While I do love some strong emotions, I think it was nice to have a funny episode for once. And the whole Ancient thing was...How long was she there?
Either way, good to hear someone else likes crossovers. I loved everyone as one big ensemble cast.

But there are fans that HATE that.
I LOVED it. Wanted more between McKay and Daniel. Would have settled for SOMETHING between McKay and Daniel.
But for those that refuse to believe McKay and Shep are friends? They just needed to watch this ep and the one after.

Yeah, see, that's a big part of it for me too -- because of the way the Stargate universe is set up, it's almost impossible for plot reasons to go for very long on either show without referring to events on the other show. When something major happens on Earth, Atlantis *has* to be affected by the fallout -- otherwise, the suspension of disbelief that's required is just too much. It might be nice to imagine Atlantis existing in a vacuum, but it doesn't -- and there was a bit of a different situation in the first season when they were isolated, but now that they're not, you really have to make reference to SG1 every once in a while.

Oh yes, yes, it's so true! These were great Sheppard/Rodney episodes.
There have been several scenes this year that have basically been canon confirmation of little bits of fanon about the characters' personal interactions that have been circulating for ages. Like all of the fanfic conversations where Rodney and Sheppard geek out about some piece of sci-fi trivia or other -- the Catwoman conversation in "Irresistible" was just like that. Or the cafeteria scene with Sheppard, Rodney and Zelenka in "No Man's Land" -- again, canon confirmation that the characters enjoy each others' company as friends as well as co-workers. And I am LOVING it. From the look of things, the writers really do intend to give us more "character moments" this season, and I may just explode from the sheer squee of it all.
I was surprised to notice on LJ that some of the fans were coming down pretty hard on Sheppard for allegedly picking on Rodney in "Pegasus Project". Kind of like some people had a negative reaction to the teasing in "Inferno", which I absolutely adored. *shrug* Takes all kinds, I guess. I see a tremendous amount of affection in the way that Sheppard teases Rodney -- very much a sibling kind of dynamic. And the lemon scene in "Pegasus Project" was just a little more of the same -- not to mention that Sheppard *knows* Rodney's hard to deal with and just gave Mitchell a nonviolent way to keep him in line.
