Reactions to SG1 10x03 - Pegasus Project
Unlike a lot of people (apparently), I don't have a negative reaction to the idea of SG1 and SGA crossing over. In fact, I like it. And there were aspects of this episode that I absolutely loved.
The conference room scene -- OMG SQUEEEEEE. And Sheppard giving Mitchell the lemon ... ahahahaha. (Also Rodney's hasty qualification: "Actually, we're very close..." which, considering the context, can be taken as either pure wishful thinking on Rodney's part or actual canon gospel ...) And then later, on the Odyssey, where Mitchell basically admits that Sheppard praises Rodney in the official SGC mission reports ... EEE. Hewlett and Tapping are a pleasure to watch, as usual -- and Zelenka, we got Zelenka! And then, leaving aside SGA for a minute, I really loved the little scene in the beginning with Vala, Mitchell and Daniel on the Odyssey ... and HEEHEEHEE at Vala's reactions to Atlantis and the ascended Ancient. I've only recently become acquainted with the Vala character, but I'm loving the HELL out of her. I never really liked Claudia Black's Farscape character, but my Vala love knows no bounds.
Where the episode really failed for me is that there was no real emotional impact, and that was so sad because SG-1 has always been very successful at bringing home the emotional punch-in-the-gut, when it tries. This episode, was fun and light and entertaining, but fell very flat emotionally -- and that made me sad, because it had so much potential. Especially with the part where Teal'c is back at the Milky Way gate and the Pegasus people are having to risk blowing up the gate -- there was SO MUCH potential for a little scene or two that delved into some of the changes in Rodney's character since "48 Hours" and in the Rodney-Carter relationship and the way it evolved through his SG1 episodes ... but none of that materialized. It wasn't JUST that I was hoping for Carter-Rodney scenes that never happened, although that was a part of it. The whole episode didn't really have much emotional impact at all. There was no catharsis, no really neat character moments -- from an emotional standpoint, the episode could vanish and have no impact on any of the characters' lives, and that's very sad because both SG1 and SGA have a LOT of episodes that aren't like that at all. The fact that they crossed them over and the result, though amusing, was kind of unimpressive ... leaves me a bit depressed.
