So I've been looking through the props auction for the Marvel Netflix shows just for fun (*sob*) -- it's here if you also want to rubberneck -- and I have made the delightful discovery that THIS is how they do the light-up effect for the Iron Fist. I mean, the fist itself is clearly CGI, but this is how they get it to glow on everything in its vicinity.

It's an LED handband that can light up in any color. For some reason it just completely delights me that what they're actually doing whenever they're doing the ultra-serious ~iron fist~ thing is that ACTUALLY somebody is wearing one of these LED handbands and staring at their hand. XD

(I love behind-the-scenes stuff.)

Other fun discoveries from the props auction - you can buy a bunch of the prop weapons and other stuff, including Colleen's katana, the flowy dress thing worn by the ninja lady who fought Danny in the first season, Mary Walker's bag of art stuff, and the knife Ward stabbed his dad with.

Also, Danny has amusingly terrible handwriting.

Aww, I don't see any Jessica stuff....? (I am amused by Stunt On-Set Microwave, though.) I LOVE props, so the stuff like Matt's Riker's ID and Foggy's law degree. And you can buy Matt's couch!....for $300, LOL, oh Matt.

It's possible they haven't had a chance to get to the Jessica stuff yet since the show just finished! *cries* They've been putting items up in batches; I've seen a couple of things mentioned in Discord that aren't in this particular batch.

And yeah, it's fun seeing the RL versions of various props. I feel like I ought to download some of the photos for potential fic/art resources if I can find anything that I might need a good reference shot of in the future. (I remember wishing I'd done this when Stargate finished; there were some good, detailed shots of the costumes and uniforms in the prop auctions ...)

I don't know how common it is, but I remember it happening with the Stargate shows as well. I think they might just not have room to keep it all around once a show wraps up its run. It might be more common to keep movie props.

That's very true! Actually I guess he's doing remarkably well for someone who's having to go off penmanship lessons from fourth grade.

A very sensible decision, if so. I think the items have been going up in batches, though, so it might have been in another batch, or a future batch to come.

Oh, another prop that's interesting to look at up close is Ward's wall portrait from the season 1 finale. It might just be that he's solemn-faced with not-very-flattering lighting, but if the actor was trying to convey that Ward was really Not Having A Good Day when the portrait was taken, he did a good job.

.... and I still want to know at what point Danny's portrait was taken, because it's clearly a very current photo of him, and the implication is that at some point between the final fight/Harold's cremation and Danny leaving with Colleen, Ward dragged him to a portrait studio.

It's just so much fun to see how they did things! There have been a few cases where it messed with my suspension of disbelief (some things are hard to unsee once you've seen them) but in general, it's really fun.

I admit, I can't blame people for wanting some of the paintings. I normally do not comprehend abstract art but there are some really pretty pieces.

I coveted the Mary Walker "self-portrait" with her face and the flowers but hahahaha do I have the money nope. XD

I love that they are selling all the artwork! I covet the Mary art as well. And the art bag. WANT.

The only bad thing about the Mary art bag is that if I scraped up the $$$ for it, I would use it. XD
