Fandom things

* The Defenders Prompt Fest is still going on! I left a big pile of new prompts on both posts yesterday, and there have been some new fills added as well.

Main Post | List of Fills | JJ3 spoiler prompt post

Come play! :D

* I seem to be one of the rare people for whom the Good Omens miniseries wasn't particularly to my taste; I mean, I liked it, but there was also a lot of "... this isn't my Good Omens" when I was watching it. However, watching people's delighted reactions and the subsequent giffing/vidding/meta has been really delightful, and I think it's made me like the show better than I did before, seeing it through the lens of people's squee. I like it when that happens.

* I signed up for [personal profile] kidficexchange, but there is a tragic lack of signups so far, and it's going to make people hard to match. Anyone tempted? :D It's for any kind of fic (or art) involving kids: characters' canonical childhoods, characters raising kids, characters getting turned into kids, etc. So if you are, say, squicked by de-aging but would like fic about your faves getting married and having kids, you can easily tailor your signup for that option.

* And I've mentioned this already, but [community profile] kingofexchanges is a new Stephen King exchange, run by [personal profile] rachelmanija, [personal profile] scioscribe, and me. Nominations/signups will open in late July.

UGH I need to write my other assignments! I've currently got open ones for MCU Exchange and Just Married. I did get my Not Prime Time one finished, yay. And then I went and signed up for Multifandomdrabble, the Defenders exchange on Tumblr, and the kidfic one (don't have assignments for any of those yet), and I'm planning to sign up for AU Exchange as well. (I did manage to talk myself out of Rare Pairs and Hetswap, because I had to draw the line somewhere.)

I also haven't managed to read anything at SSR Confidential yet, except my gifts (which were absolutely lovely! ♥). I need to go get some reading in before creator reveals, which are happening on Friday.

It's only 2 weeks (give or take a bit) 'til the new season of Stranger Things comes out. So many of my ongoing shows have been cancelled; I think that and the next season of Umbrella Academy are the only things I'm really looking forward to right now. But I really can't wait to get some new episodes of STh. Please don't kill Steve, show.

... oh, and I'm absolutely loving the "post about all the books you read in June" initiative that [personal profile] rachelmanija has been spearheading! It's been lovely to see so many book posts on my reading page. ♥

I'm kind of sorry that you've been bombared with Good Omens stuff when you didn't enjoy it ...but I can't say I'm not happy you're warming to it! There are things my friends love that I don't but sometimes I enjoy seeing them enjoy it, if that makes sense?

...HOW is a new season of Stranger Things ready already? Or maybe I'm misremembering how long it's been since the last one.

A year and a half, really? Wow. It felt like much sooner. Probably because of how long it was high on the Fandom Excitement Pole and appearing everywhere.

also very worried about the new season breaking some of the things I like writing about!
I hear you! Every time a show is renewed for another season I'm torn between excitement and "do NOT fuck it up! (worse than already)". Which is why, as I'm sure we've talked about, I'm kind of relieved that Agent Carter ended where it did (as long as we headcanon Jack's survival).

I hope more people sign up; I saw someone else promoting the kid exchange, so maybe the numbers will come.

Hello! I am in a downward spiral into Guardian, very aided by [personal profile] naye!

IT IS SO GOOD I AM IN LOVE.

(this was supposed to be in the thread above where you mentioned Guardian, sorry!)

In my case it's more that I didn't have a "my" Good Omens; while I enjoyed the book and have always enjoyed hanging out on fandom periphery it wasn't and isn't a particularly important story for me. So as a result all versions are similarly valid for me. XD

I particularly enjoyed the angel-demon love story in this one and it had pretty visuals; I sort of prefer elements of the radio play and really wish they'd kept the bit at the end with "my father is coming" the way it is in the book. But I enjoy the fandom energy at present. At least the bits of it not being assholes.

Same! I did love the book, but not in a fannish, formative, reading-and-rereading kind of way; I enjoyed it and I found bits very memorable, but most of my fannishness about it was always secondhand, in that way one has when friends are super into a book one likes fine. I feel similarly about the miniseries (about which I have both quibbles and things I loved), which means that I've been really enjoying the rush of fannishness rather than feeling overwhelmed and disgruntled about it in the way I might have if I'd loved the book more deeply (and thus felt more cranky about my quibbles.) Plus the nostalgia factor of this second wave of secondhand fannishness is delightful.

I didn't find Good Omens all that appealing either--but I'm also loving seeing people squee, especially the way a lot of people I know who haven't had a fandom for years are suddenly back and making things.

I'm fairly neutral about the Good Omens mini series, I enjoyed watching it but didn't get as excited as I thought I would. Agree with you about having more fun watching other people squee about it, and it helps show it in an interesting light and highlight bits I missed.

Yes! I think I just said this elsewhere, but it's really nice seeing fandom being joyous and participating in the joy and I just love it when fandom gets all enthusiastic.
