H/C pinch hits, anyone?

Hurt/Comfort Exchange assignments are out and they have a slew of initial pinch hits! Go to hurtcomfortex to check out the list and see if there's anything you might want to write. (I'm linking to the top-level community rather than the pinch hit posts because they're easier to view that way.)

While I'm at it, a question for people who run exchanges: how do you handle unassigned people in the AO3 assignment control panel, e.g. in a situation like this? I ran into this issue with SSR Confidential last year and ended up double-assigning someone (to myself) just to get it to stop giving me errors, but up until that point I hadn't realized the control panel doesn't let you just not assign people. It was enough of a pain with just one of them; I can't even imagine how it's handled in large exchanges that end up with dozens of pinch hits, unless they just assign all the unassigned people to the mods and then sort it out afterwards. Is there some easier way?

By unassigned, I presume you mean the ones that had no writer, not the ones that had no recip? Because I know in the latter case, mods usually contact and ask you to expand your offers, or delete your sign up.

Yes, that's what I mean. Not cases where it's literally impossible to assign someone because they have no matches (in that case you would ask them to redo their assignment), but where you can't get the assignments to match up in a way that doesn't leave some people without matches.

There is one pinch hit for That Fandom That's In My Bone Marrow But Which I Do Not Do Fandom For that is, in fact, for the one single [pairing] that I have that is not Actively Canonical* with, like, the single set up that I secretly believe is canon and could write for, except I Do Not Do Fandom For That Fandom and now I am having flail about my compartmentalizations.



*look my inner seven year old Knows What She Knows and that is 99.8% rigid per canon with basically one exception that is probably predictable as hell as well as very tragic that she insists is not actually an exception, I just work here, plus a detailed cultural and religious history of the [big canonical event] in [specific place not dealt with by canon]

Haha. Well, you could always try writing a fic and see if it works out to something they might like, and then pick it up as a pinch hit if it's still available, or give it to them as a treat if not! (Though I understand if you'd like to keep this fandom read-only; I have fandoms like that.)

Yeah, I just assign all the people without writers to myself, then mass "default" on everything except my assignment. Ive never heard of any other way of doing it, unfortunately.

Do you run into any corresponding issues with having to double-assign writers? That is, with a number of people having no one assigned to them, does that create too many writers and not enough assignments, or does it all balance out?

I was looking through the pinch hits and managed to get sucked into a new very tiny fandom, and I might end up pinch hitting for it, because I really wanted to help and looked up several things that looked interesting and then fell hard and it's all your fault ;)
