Help me flist, you're my only hope!

I need music recs! (It's for a vid.)

Can people rec me some fun, bouncy pop music, preferably 80s music or something with that general kind of style (light pop with a brisk beat) with a friendship/"working together"/"having fun"/"people doing stuff together" vibe to the lyrics? The big problem I'm having is, it's not that I can't come up with plenty of that kind of thing, it's that coming up with ones that aren't love songs is difficult, and I need something that isn't a love song. It can even technically be a love song, as long as it's not so obviously a love song that you couldn't make a gen vid to it.

I have some ideas already but I'd love more ideas for songs that I overlooked, haven't heard, or just didn't think of.

I don't suppose Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun will get you anywhere? There's got to be other Cindi Lauper that's not love songs though.

Or (forgive me here) this version of We Built This City that was the UK's Christmas number one this year!!

(Yes, yes, I know, but it was for charity and we Brits do like a good silly song for Christmas, lol!!)

Hee! Digging through some Billy Joel stuff but keep running into love songs, not 80s, or not quite the vibe you're describing. There is "You May Be Right, I May Be Crazy,' tho

Dangit, I have to go strap into my leg brace for an hour/ didn't realize it was after 7 here...you might want to look at Genesis and Huey Lewis And The News, too.

.
That reminds me... also Billy Joel, "This is my Life". (I think that's it: sold his shop, now he gives them a standup routine in LA...)

Barbra Streisand, "Don't Rain on my Parade"?

I'm so behind on music, and don't know eras at all; just trying to think of catchy stuff.

"You've Got Elegance" from Hello, Dolly. (Had a lot of fun with that one in choreography workshop.)

Petula Clark: Downtown, or "Round Every Corner" or "I Know a Place".

A few 80s groove tunes:

"Funky Town" by Lipps Inc.
"How Bizzare" by OMC
"Electric Youth" by Debbie Gibson
Pretty much anything by Madonna from that era, but probably the least love-songy is "Into the Groove"

And some non-80s suggestions:

"Single Ladies" by Beyonce
"Just Dance" by Lady Gaga
"Groove is in the Heart" by Dee-Lite. The video has 30 seconds of talk up front and at the end, but if you download the song from iTunes this doesn't exist.
"Tik Tok" by Kesha
"I've Got a Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas
"Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry (featuring a sax solo by 80s cheesemaster, Kenny G)
"Till the World Ends" by Britney Spears
"Tubthumping by Chumbawamba
"Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson (feat. Bruno Mars)
"Ray of Light" by Madonna

Hope this helps. And Happy New Year!

Not sure about the 80's feel, but here are a couple of mine off my current everything-I-love playlist - I'll link to Genius so you can see the lyrics and play a clip, and if you like anything you'll hopefully be able to find the full version!

Wild "Here We Go"
Zayde Wolf "Higher than Higher
Banners "Someone to you"

Let me know if you liked them, and if you're still looking for recs (whether for vidding or similar music). :D

It is SO HARD to find any songs that aren't about romance. I keep meaning to make a playlist just so I can be sure there ARE any.

Here's some that meet a few of your criteria; I don't think any meet all. Practically none are 80s but the beat is kinda there. Maybe you can make some work. Very roughly in order of most to least useful:

Justice Crew: Que Sera

Keith Urban: Wasted Time

Keith Urban: Days Go By

Keith Urban: Gone Tomorrow (Here Today)

Keith Urban: Worry 'Bout Nothin'

Justin Timberlake: Can't Stop the Feeling!

Helen Shapiro: Walking Back To Happiness

Little Mix: Wings

Taylor Swift: Long Live (very high school)

Taylor Swift: 22

Will probably only work for female friendship:
Meghan Trainor: Woman Up

Sugarland: Down to Mississippi (Up to No Good)

Shania Twain: Man! I Feel Like a Woman!

From the 9 to 5 musical:
Shine Like The Sun (probably way too much dialogue to be useful)

I went through this myself a few years ago when I needed a song for some Happy Endings vids for festivids and Club Vivid. I got a few suggestions, I can look them up and see if there's anything that might fit. One of the better suggestions was for Dragonette--they definitely have that '80s vibe, and bouncy, and I was pleasantly surprised. (One that I used for the vid was We Rule the World, and if you're interested in hearing what they're like it's probably in my vidding tag on my DW.)

Actually ,durr, I'm such a dumbass, I always forget about AO3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/2215512

For any groups that travel together, "Life Is a Highway" isn't blatantly romantic...

Heeee, I've had thoughts of doing a SPN vid to it myself! Somehow not surprised you'd have beaten me to it ^_^

Haah, I've only ever made one vid, and it was on a different computer so I'd need to install software and whatnot...so probably not, but it is still the perfect song for it ^_^
