Good post about self-publishing at rachelmanija's journal (dropping this link on my way out the door; we're off for four days in the wilds of Canada). I added some details in the comments about my own self-pub experience. It's hard to find solid numbers because people in self-publishing really don't like talking about how much they're making or not making, which is fair, but it also means there's a lot of misinformation and misconceptions around.

Which wilds are you headed for?

The Yukon! We're driving from Fairbanks across the border to Whitehorse, then up to Dawson City and back via the Top of the World Highway. We're spending the night in Destruction Bay tonight - didn't make it all the way to Whitehorse (but we weren't really trying, either).

Very cool! I've been to 9 out of 10 provinces but never been to any of the territories. Yukon is first on my list.
