*snerk*

Random, not that spoilery comment on the Chanur series (I'm now up to book 3) - though it probably won't make a speck of sense if you haven't read the books.

I love how Hilfy is basically (in her own mind, at least) the hotheaded young stud who rescued herself a half-naked alien space damsel, and Pyanfar knows it.

Scene that keeps repeating at regular intervals throughout the books, summarized:
Hilfy: *pets Tully*
Pyanfar: Ffffffff—OPPOSITE CORNERS OF THE SHIP, NOW.

(I'm not sure if I fully appreciated, when I originally read these books, just how many alien space princess clichés the author manages to achieve with Tully, the stray human rescued by starfaring lion-women. ... Not to mention how often he loses his clothes.)

LOL, so true and so very nicely done. Not just about Tully, either, but about Pyanfar's own bruised and battered, cast off as too old and ugly mate. I hadn't read the book from this perspective but may go back to simply bask in the 'turnabout is fair play' scenes. ;)

Oooohh. That's true too, isn't it!

I was coming here to say re: Tully that, except for how I don't think we have the same taste in men, there are a truly satisfying number of times when Cherryh's id aligns with mine in this kind of stuff. Pyanfar is the BEST.

I did really appreciate that on my most recent reread. It's such a deft twist on classic scifi tropes. :D
