The obligatory DorkPost(tm) on SGA 3x01
I actually got to see the episode when it aired! We don't have cable, but a co-worker invited myself and Orion over to watch the SG-1 and SGA premieres, so I didn't have to wait to download. eeeheeeheeeheee....
Good thing I know how this show operates, so I didn't have my hopes up about a big reunion scene ... 'cuz there wasn't one. But it MORE than made up for it with ...
The cafeteria scene with Rodney, Zelenka and Sheppard! My favorite moment in the episode BY FAR! If this is what they mean by "more character moments this season", then BRING IT ON! I don't know what I loved most ... just the fact that we now have canonical evidence that Sheppard eats with the scientists, at least some of the time; the way Sheppard was tuning out their debate and watching the chick at the next table; the way Zelenka & Rodney tried to draw Sheppard into the conversation; the fact that Sheppard was thinking of this while trapped in an F302 and running out of air in hyperspace ... It was like a scene straight out of fanfic, and I mean that in a GOOD way!
*pant pant pant* Let's see, what else?
LOVED the Rodney-Ronon interaction, especially how Ronon finally broke free with the force of sheer frustration (ha!), and then on the Daedalus, Ronon steadying Rodney when he staggers where they're running out of air.
Loved Sheppard and Caldwell working together.
Loved Teyla in charge of Atlantis! And this was something that my sister and I had been speculating about ... "Long Goodbye" made the Elizabeth/Sheppard/Rodney chain of command fairly clear, but we figured that Teyla would have to be next in line. And she was! and everybody listened to her! Too cool!
Loved that the Daedalus hasn't been destroyed or Caldwell killed (yet) so the possibility still exists that I can set the Daedalus-centric story I'm working on in Season 3 rather than having to roll it back to Season 2. And, while I hate to say that I "loved" the Orion getting destroyed, it DOES resolve a sticky little plot point in that same story, and makes the whole thing work much better now!
Loved Zelenka and Lorne on the Orion, and then Zelenka and McKay on the Daedalus! OMG, Zelenka has come a long way from the timid guy jumping at shadows offworld on "Duet".
Loved that Lorne lived! I keep fully expecting either him, Zelenka or Caldwell to die (as a named, non-contract character in the Stargate universe, you may as well just paint a target on your chest) and I thought he was going to buy it twice this episode -- first on the Orion, then on the hiveship with the Wraith queen -- and it was extra cool that he lived. (And by the way, if anybody reading this has firsthand knowledge that one of these three takes a dirt nap this season, DON'T TELL ME! I MEAN IT! SHUSH! Seriously, if they *are* going to pull another Grodin or Ford on us, I'd rather be surprised.)
Basic verdict: That was awesome. IS IT NEXT FRIDAY YET?

Was I the only one that on seeing those scenes wonder how long it will be until that becomes a new slash pairing?

Then there's Lorne. I was totally with you about the death part. I thought he was a goner on the Orion for sure. I didnt quite think he was a goner with the Queen tho, cuz everyone was right there with him. however the slomo in that part DID quicken my heartbeat just enough so that i thought that maybe he had already gotten a broken neck from being picked up like that...im glad he wasnt tho! :)
My only real prob was the weird place that they ended it. instead of ending it on a climax they ended it on the weirdest lull in action EVAH...& the lack of Sparky interaction...
But who the heck cares?! Next Fri cant come soon enough! :)
~Sharma,
totally drooling at
the new promos at gateworld ;)

And they *are* adrift in space between galaxies with both ships largely nonfunctional and their friends believing that they're dead ... it's true that it's kind of a lull in the action, but they're definitely not out of the woods yet!
... Friday can't come soon enough for me.

Ronon directing McKay on the ship, keeping him focused just made me squeal with delight. I know some of the talk about that scene with Shep, McKay and Zelenka being Kirkly to me is wrong. It was exactly what was needed and a great little scene. Why would anyone want to listen?
