That AO3 top-tags meme
Because I've seen it in a bunch of places now, and because I love stats!
Go to your AO3 works page, expand all the filters, and answer the following questions!
1. What’s your first and second most common work ratings? Any surprises?
Teen And Up Audiences (231)
General Audiences (164)
Mature (8)
Explicit (3)
Not Rated (1)
Sholio Does Not Write Sex Often but I think we all knew this already. (I wrote more sex scenes in my first 3 months of writing tropey romance for sale than probably my previous 10 years of writing fanfic.) Pretty sure the "not rated" one is due to accidentally failing to click a ticky box when posting a fic.
2. What’s your most common archive warning? Least common? Do you consider yourself an adventurous writer?
No Archive Warnings Apply (368)
Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings (24)
Major Character Death (8)
Graphic Depictions Of Violence (7)
A biiiig factor in all the "choose not to warn" is Guardians of the Galaxy fandom, where you are caught between having to warn for Major Character Death in every fic that touches upon the second movie, or punching readers unexpectedly in the feels ... or just ticking "choose not to warn". Like many writers in the fandom, I've been going for the latter.
Adventurous writer? hahaha. No. Well, I do like to push myself outside my comfort zone a little now and then; there are very few things (pairings, tropes, etc) I won't at least try to write. In theory. But in general, I'm in fanfic for a few particular things, and I like writing and do them reasonably well, so those are mostly the things I write.
3. How many fics have you written in each relationship category? Is this more accidental, or do you have preferences?
Gen (329)
F/M (62)
Multi (23)
M/M (17)
F/F (5)
Other (5)
OH LOOK IT'S A TON OF GEN. lol.
The relatively high proportion of F/M is mostly just due to many of my fandoms having canon het pairings. I mean, I DO ship various het pairings, don't get me wrong, but as far as fics actually focused on those pairings, I think there aren't as many as it looks like, since there are a number of fandoms (e.g. Agent Carter) where it's hard to write gen without needing to include enough of the main canon pairing to tag for it. In equal fairness, most of the M/M and F/F, as well as some of the F/M, was written for exchanges. The Multi tag though - i.e. poly fic - that's pretty much all by me, for me. XD "Other" is stuff like Ancillary Justice (I wrote it for Yuletide one year) or fic that doesn't easily fall into any category like my oddball soulmates one for AC or the one where all the LoT characters accidentally got married to people in various time periods.
4. What are your top 4 fandoms by numbers? Are you still active in any of them, and do you tend to migrate a lot?
White Collar (147)
Agent Carter (TV) (63)
Captain America (Movies) (29)
Guardians of the Galaxy (Movies) (26)
Here's where me not having my SGA fic on AO3 is going to start skewing the stats, because I'm fairly sure SGA is right up there with White Collar for Most Fic Written, and the character/relationship stats would reflect that as well, except I never put most of it on AO3. The gap between the top-tier fandoms and the next ones down is really extreme, though.
Two of these are currently active fandoms for me (Agent Carter and GotG).
I used to be pretty strictly a serial fandom monogamist. I'd get into things, write a bunch of fic there, and then move on when something new caught my attention. I almost never went back. I'm not sure why this has changed over the years, but it has. Right now I'm actively writing fic in an uprecedented four different fandoms -- Agent Carter, GotG, Stranger Things, and Dark Matter. And I fall in and out of fandoms now in a way I never used to. So yeah, idk.
5. What are your top character tags? Does this match how you feel about the characters, or are you puzzled?
Peter Burke (136)
Neal Caffrey (130)
Elizabeth Burke (62)
Peggy Carter (52)
Jack Thompson (51)
Daniel Sousa (44)
I think the only surprise is that I've tagged Jack in about as many fics as I've tagged Peggy in, which I would not have expected. (I mean, I know I write him a lot; it's just that I do write Peggy without Jack -- I SWEAR, lol -- so I wasn't expecting it to balance that closely.) Also, again, if the SGA fic was in here, there'd probably be as much John and Rodney as Peter and Neal.
6. What are your top 2 most used additional tags, and your bottom 2? What would happen if you combined all 4 of these into a fic?
Hurt/Comfort (125)
Friendship (124)
Case Fic (11)
Fluff (11)
... so basically you'd get a typical Sholio fic, then. XD
7. How many WIPs do you have currently running on AO3? Any you don’t plan on finishing?
In the sense of unfinished fics, I don't really have any right now -- just the "scraps" collections of Tumblr promptfic, which are always going to be open-ended. As for unfinished series, I have several of those (e.g. the Psychic Neal one, the Fallen London/White Collar series Frith and I were co-writing for awhile, the Wolf Peter one ...). I don't know what the odds are that I'll ever go back to those. A lot of them are designed to not have an end anyway (e.g. the Wolf Peter stories are never really going to have an endpoint, just more little pieces of White-Collar-with-werewolves). I still kind of feel bad about leaving the Psychic Neal series hanging, especially since people still ask me about it occasionally (I got an ask about it on Tumblr just the other day) but I don't know what the odds are that I'll get enough into WC again to write as much as I'd need to write to bring it to some kind of conclusion.

Did I ever tell you my overall arc for Peter and Neal in the second "season"? It's not horribly depressing, I promise. Well, I mean it IS, but it ended on a very sweet note.

You used to write SGA!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a place where I can find these works/are you ever going to import them into AO3?
I just love your fics so much and have been on a huge SGA kick for the past year (since I watched the series for the first time) and I'm always on the hunt for new (to me) awesome Stargate fics. Also, it seems like all of my favorite authors spent time in the all-consuming black hole that was Stargate fandom, which means that I have a ton of excellent fics to go through now that I know the canon :D :D

A lot of it is also still on ff.net.
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that my wordage for SGA is still higher than any other fandom, because so much of what I wrote in that fandom was novel-length. (On the website above, shorter stories are defined as ones under 60K, lol. And I definitely wasn't one of the most prolific writers in that fandom by a long shot. SGA was a fandom with many huge stories.) So yeah, there is a TON of fic there ... most of which isn't up on AO3 yet because I've never been able to muster the motivation to import a bunch of 100K multi-chapter fics, all of which were written in a word processor that no longer runs on my computer, so I can't open the files anymore ... But I keep thinking I should do that, someday.

You were my second "must read RIGHT AWAY" author in SGA. (Lamardeuse was first.) I may have missed a few... but I have 197 stories saved in my SGA > Friendshipper folder. (Just in case you wanted to know.)
Now... gotta compare your site to my folder, make sure I didn't miss any. (At least hoarding fanfic in my laptop takes up way less space than hoarding paperback sci-fi, romance, and mysteries!)
.

It was a pretty awesome fandom to be a part of. :D

I've bookmarked this, and am so excited to read through it. Also, it turns out that I /have/ read some of your SGA fics, as several look familiar.
Thanks for the link! I'm sure it'll provide many hours of happy reading <3

This is very cool!
And also, making me wish I had more time and energy for fandom again... :-)
no subject
(no, that's a lie, I don't wonder; I know exactly where it goes ...)
I hope you're able to get back into it. I've fallen in and out, over the years; I've had years when I didn't write any fic at all. For me, it always came back. I just keep circling back around to it.
no subject
I find myself circling around the edges of fandom again. Though I don't know where I'm going to find the time! ;-)

I'm surprised you're surprised! XD He appears in almost every single one of your fics, at least as a minor character. XD
For me, the only interesting stat is Additional Tags:
- Friendship (18)
- Post-Season/Series 02 (11) <-- this is all AC
- Canon Compliant (10)
I'm curious if this would be a fun meme to do for bookmarks as well. i.e. Read vs Write kind of statistics. Looking at mine (this includes private bookmarks), I get:
To Read (132) <-- lol, yeah that's gonna happen *weeps*
Angst (104)
Hurt/Comfort (88)
Heh.
no subject
I don't tag my bookmarks. This was a much better idea before I ended up with 800 of them.
no subject
My public bookmarks are pretty well organized -- and there aren't that many of them -- but my private ones are a big old mess.

(Say what one will about Tumblr, it has the cutest emoji.)
I've had so many shows crash and burn that there's a part of me that's happy to have three really solid seasons that never burned me or broke my heart; I expect this is a show I'll be rewatching regularly, which I can't say for many of my former favorites. But this also has all the hallmarks of one of those rare shows that could've really managed to stick the landing if Syfy had given it a chance. Why are the good ones always cancelled too soon?! ;_____;
no subject
The show really is solid -- I think there were only a couple of episodes we really didn't like. (Fortunately I don't think they set a single ep wholly in Fake Space Japan, altho I could be wrong.) And even the ones that weren't favourites, like the time travel one, had great character work with Android and kept the plot going in the background. (I loved all the characters, but the really stellar performer was Zoie Palmer. I would happily just watch her read the tax codes.) And the way the actors just switched from one part to another right there onscreen, no changing or whatever, and got to play such different versions of themselves! That all by itself was an amazing treat.
What a show. sigh. I haven't felt as crushed by a cancellation in quite a while. I was really sad with Agent Carter, but that at least felt like both seasons got wrapped up -- especially the first one -- and it didn't leave everything just hanging. I didn't get into SCC until it was already over, and the ending of that also kind of works. But to have not just the plot but the fates of the characters we love all suddenly cut short -- that's hard.
no subject
I'm going to watch Killjoys eventually, and I hope I like it, but I'm so bitter right now. I KNOW it's unfair. It's not the other show's fault. I just wish the shows had come out at different times rather than being pitted against each other Survivor-style. I need to wait 'til I can watch it unbiased rather than going in with this at the back of my head.
And I know it's just show biz. It's what happens when we fall in love with things that live or die based on market considerations (and behind the scenes politics) instead of their creators' affection for them. But oh, it hurts.
no subject
(I loathed One, but having Jace come back as fake One or his evil self was kind of intriguing, but I wasn't disappointed.)
no subject
I watched an interview with Mallozzi where he talked about it being a TPTB decision -- that he was forced to pick one of the cast to kill off, and picked One because that was the one that could be removed with least disruption, even though he really liked the actor and would've welcomed him back. (According to him, the time loop episode got dropped into S3 to take the place of an episode with Alt!One that they couldn't do because the actor was busy, while the time loop episode was already written and ready to go. Which means we ALMOST DIDN'T GET THE TIME LOOP EPISODE in the filmed part of the series, and it would've been One's fault if it had been pushed back to the season that never happened. XD Conflicting filming schedules ftw! Anyway, apparently they WANTED Dark Mirror One and couldn't get him.) But it's just so weird the way they went with both One and Jace. I mean I at least expected them to keep Jace around to add conflict for a few episodes???
... That being said, it's not like I EXPECT anyone to be honest if there was some kind of backstage shenaniganry that made it necessary to kill him off. I mean what the hell are they going to say? Show biz is a small world and blabbing about disputes contractual or personal does no one's career any good.
And ALL OF THAT being said, I remember some people in SGA fandom speculating that Mallozzi killed off Weir on SGA because he and Torri hated each other (something to do with him not being able to stand her because she was too assertive about her character), but apparently they didn't hate enough other too much for both of them to happily work together on his new show! It seems like in every fandom, people speculate that characters are killed off because the showrunners hate them, but at least 90% of the time that's not so, it's just part of the business and everyone understands how it works. (Of course, there are always those times when it actually IS true. I know of a few of those, too, confirmed by backstage sources. Obviously it happens. But he's literally IN A TAXI WITH THE GUY in that bit you linked to above, so obviously it's not that Mallozzi hates the guy?? Just ... some weird backstage thing, I guess.)

I do end up writing (nonexplicit) femslash for exchanges. But I've recently been revising and posting some of my old fics to AO3 and wow, I used to write pretty vivid sex scenes. I literally have not done that in decades. And what it reminded me is that I used to write gen when I had a boyfriend and both gen and explicit het when I didn't. *cough* Emotion reflected in tranquillity? *cough* Been married for 15 years now.
no subject
In a way I've gotten better at shipping over the years, in the sense that, people used to assume I was shipping when I wasn't (or at least didn't think I was), and now (with several years of writing romance behind me) I'm much better at evoking the emotions I want, and not going too far over the sexuality line if I wasn't planning on it.
no subject
I will admit that the femslash I wrote for last year's Yuletide convinced me that one of the characters was in love with the other, and that even though it didn't cross that line, they did have a friendship reconciliation in the final season, especially the final episode, and I found myself going "yeah, she loves her." Very strange for me. Apparently I can be convincing to myself . . .
