The Flash - mostly caught up

I haven't watched 3x05 yet (and still haven't watched most of season one) but otherwise I'm caught up. And, oh, this show. I mean, the plots can be so terrible ... But it's not nearly as bad as LoT, and the character stuff is just pushing my buttons all over the place. I love it. For the past couple of days, this show has been my coping mechanism and happy place.

I don't really see this becoming a major fandom for me. My heart still belongs to Agent Carter, and also a brief dip into the fanfic is making me think that there isn't a whole lot out there to suit the particular things I want to read, and quite possibly a whole world of DNW - I've heard about the unpleasantness of the fandom's ship wars even from tangentially associated superhero fandoms without having seen an episode.

But, oh, these characters. I'm pretty sure the S2-to-early-S3 plot gave me very nearly everything I wanted (except more h/c, always more h/c).

Spoilers welcome in comments! I basically love everyone now, except for the bad guys (including Eobard Thawne, sorry fandom -- looking at the fic tells me he's popular, but for me he's somewhere between "love to hate" and "basically just hate"). EVERYONE ELSE THOUGH. ♥

ETA: Oh wait - recs! Please rec me anything good! I want to find some good vids! xparrot already rec'd one, and I've been poking around Youtube - anyone seen anything good? I would also like to find gen fic, especially Harry-centric with Jesse or team (I already found one author who looks VERY promising and has also written some good LoT and Avengers stuff).

Fall Out Boy/Centuries. I know you said you don't like the Rogues, but I thought it was really clever how the vidder matched the characters to their comic panels for the 'we've been here forever' lyric.

Oh, and yeah, the vids-made-of-dialogue-clips trend drives me batty. I didn't used to mind a few interspersed throughout a vid, because some vidders do a really nice job with it, but it's gotten to where several in a row at the start of a vid makes me backbutton straight out.

I don't mind an intro...a short clip of dialogue with no music behind it...but like I said, I'm getting old, heh. Just enough hearing loss so if they have dialogue and lyrics overlaid I can't make out what either of 'em is.

It's not just hearing loss -- it's bad sound mixing! So many of them have clip dialogue and music at about the same sound level. It's the auditory equivalent of those vids where the clips have been given such a heavy treatment with filters that all you can really make out are some bright, fast-moving, over-saturated blurs.

I should add that I still really like brief dialogue clips at the beginning of a vid. Several of mine have that. I don't even mind a fairly extended clip intro as long as it's mixed well with the music. But so many of the ones I've found on Youtube are just a jarring mix of incomprehensible clip blurred together with the music, and ... no.

Yea, I watched the Flash on and off some of the first season and it was okay. Then I caught one episode (season ending one??) where the MENTOR character flat out killed the guy who the Flash didn't - also walking, when I guess he can't? It was just OMGWTFBBQ and I've never turned in since, as it so turned me off the show :(

Did they ever redeem that - is he really a bad guy? but I keep seeing him as in the group, so are they all clueless?

Not sure which episode you're remembering, although it's not a season finale.

There is a plotline in Season 1 where someone who has been Barry's mentor turns out to have ulterior motives and is the main villain of the season.

There is also a plotline in Season 2 where a key member of Barry's team is being blackmailed by the main villain of the season because the main villain is holding his daughter captive. In this case the key member isn't exactly a bad guy but does do some bad things because of the threat to his daughter's life.

Note that the "mentor" from Season 1 and the "key member" from Season 2 look exactly alike because the "key member" comes from an alternate Earth.

Like the person above me said - yes, he is evil, but there is an AU version of him running around too, who is being blackmailed into doing bad things but is actually a good guy. So I'm not sure which of them you saw, because it could've been either one, but one is a decent person and one is not.

The storyline with the AU doppelganger was actually my favorite thing about the show. If you'd like to just watch that story arc, I suggest starting with 2x04. All you really need for purposes of the story arc are the last couple minutes of the episode, so you could also skip right to the end, watch that scene, and then go on to 2x05 if you like. It sucked me in HARD within a couple of episodes after I'd bounced off the first season, so I think it's worth giving a try! :D
