Agent Carter is officially cancelled.
I'm sad, but ... surprisingly not as sad as I thought I'd be. The thing is, I didn't believe we'd get a season two. And because of that, the second season felt like a gift. I didn't expect to get it, and then it came along and was so gloriously, perfectly just what I wanted, and left all of the characters exactly where I hoped they'd be. (Well, except for that CLIFFHANGER, but even the cliffhanger is a wonderful jumping-off point for fic.)
If the show had to end somewhere, I don't think it could've been a better place -- well, okay, not having an eternal cliffhanger would have been nice, but I came out of the season so much more inspired to write stuff than if it'd tied everything up neatly, so for fanficcing purposes, it's great. (I was also very gratified to find out that the fandom didn't assume the worst in fanfic with the cliffhanger ... I was braced for something like Carnivale, which ended very similarly but literally ALL the fic, what little exists, assumes the worst-case scenario. AC fandom hasn't done that and hopefully will continue to explore all the post-canonhurt/comfort possibilities.)
So, yeah, I wanted a season three so bad. But it's ours now, guys. They can never kill anybody off or take the show or any of the characters in a direction so terrible that it taints everything that came before. And I have multiple LONG post-season-two fics I want to write, and more vids I plan to make. I'm not even that worried about the fandom contracting, as fandoms always do in the post-canon period, because the fandom wasn't that big to begin with; it's not like something like SGA where half the fun was being in a big, active fandom, so losing that was sad. Here, the fandom has always been small but hardcore, and hopefully we can pull a Firefly, where the fandom is still going strong long after the tiny amount of canon is over.
I can't do this tonight or tomorrow because I have houseguests, but as soon as possible (this weekend hopefully?) I'm going to do another ficlet-prompt session (or two), because canon may be over -- unless it gets a new lease of life on Netflix or Hulu, which would be LOVELY, but I'm not holding out too much hope -- but that just means we can take it in whatever direction we want, and I'm going to be there for that ride.

As someone who always loved Agent Carter but also wanted it to be more than it was, and now will never get a chance at that in canon: BOO!

I am in a weird place with fic right now where I'm writing a lot of it, but not reading much of it, for various reasons. Which makes me feel a little weird to be an actively participating member of a fandom in which I'm not reading most people's fic; I feel kind of guilty and embarrassed about that, especially when people leave me nice comments and I don't reciprocate by commenting on theirs! But ... it's just not where my brain is at right now.

I have tried to find this fandom, and not had much luck -- just Twitter (too late in the game to be there when Hayley was!) and images-no-discussion blogs on Tumblr. So any direction to where people are playing would be greatly appreciated. And I'm going to add you to my reading list, hope that's okay.

Because, yeah, this fandom is really scattered, unusually so for most of the small-to-medium-sized fandoms I've been in. There just is NO central hangout area or news-collecting source or anything. I saw someone in the tags on Tumblr today asking if anyone was interested in having a fic exchange ... well, I'm running one, but I think most people on Tumblr don't know about it, and though I tried to get the word out, the majority of the people who signed up are people who know me from LJ/DW. Which isn't bad, of course, and I got a great response (much better than I was afraid of - plenty of people to make matching easy!) but the fandom is just SO scattered. I am vaguely aware there was also a Peggy/Daniel exchange that had its signups back in February, but I didn't even hear about it 'til near the end of the signup period and I was already working on getting SSR Confidential off the ground.
And I really don't know what to do about it, either! Maybe all of the newer fandoms are like that; this is the only one I've been in so far that doesn't really have a locus on DW, LJ, or someplace like that. Avengers fandom, for example, while of course the majority of it is on Tumblr like anything else these days, is huge enough to have a large presence and its own comms on DW, so I never felt like I was missing out on anything. But AC is just scattered all over the place.
The Peggy/Daniel people on Tumblr ARE fairly organized and talk to each other a lot. You might want to look up peonymoss, peg-carter, and katiekeysburg as people to follow over there (there are definitely others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head who interact with each other a lot and post a lot of their own meta and thoughts -- peg-carter is doing a season one rewatch right now). Incidentally, I'm on tumblr as sholiofic (my fic blog) and laylainalaska (my personal/reblog/meta/everything-else tumblr).
So basically, hi, and sorry about the nattering! :D It's fun to have new people to talk about the show with!

Cool. Signed up to do beta. Probably can't pinch hit anyway, as I'll be traveling/tied up with family from June 1-5 (parents' 60th!). And, hmm, I've never done a bigbang, but I have a *really big* Peggy & Howard story in mind, so I would actually *write* it if I had deadlines and etc. So definitely interested in that.
Thanks for the Tumblr suggestions. My relationship with Tumblr is very . . . conditional? I've used it mostly for non-fannish things, and lately had fallen away except for checking the AC sites I follow (as I said, really mostly visual), but I'll definitely check these out!
