Agent Carter fic exchange

So, at the end of the first season last year, I talked a little about maybe running a fic exchange ... and then never did anything about it.

sheron and I talked a little more about it in email over the last couple of weeks before the finale. I was hesitating to commit to anything because I didn't know if the show would leave me wanting to ... but it did, it did, it really did. :D

Sheron suggested a Big Bang. I am leaning somewhat more towards an exchange because I think it would be a lot easier to get people to participate if the bar to entry was 1000 words rather than 5-10K, and it is really a tiny fandom. Also, I've never run an exchange on AO3 and I think it would be fun to try. (I may regret this deeply.) However, it might also be possible to try both, maybe staggering them so they're not both going at once. As far as I know, the only other exchanges that exist in the fandom at all are Peggy/Daniel-based and are fairly small.

So:

- Anyone want to talk to me about the relative merits of a fic exchange vs a Big Bang, or a good strategy for doing both without burning people out?

- Anyone have suggestions for an appropriate name for a fic exchange? I would like something with a 1940s kind of feel. There are at least two other events I know of, in different fandoms, that are called Spring Fling, or else I'd use that one (though I still might, if I can't think of anything better). Spring Social? Agent Carter Mixer? What are some 1940s-ish social events you can think of?

Aaaah, I am really excited! My preference would be for a big bang but I'd be happy to join an exchange, too. (But a big bang gives me an excuse to write my Peggy/Dottie roadtrip to rescue Michael!)

With a big bang, you're going to need artists as well as writers. For an exchange, you'll need to manage pinch hits and so on. But the matching would be so interesting! I could request and offer femslash.

What are some 1940s-ish social events you can think of?

Thank you! :D Yeah, I kinda want to do both, but I'm probably leaning towards the exchange first, and then do a Big Bang later in the year. The Big Bang is also going to be more complicated to organize (I suspect) because of the need to find artists and match them up with writers. I've run exchanges before, and it looks like doing it on AO3 will be even easier than doing it back in the days of LJ and manual matching, which is where my experience is.

Thank you! :D I'm probably going for the exchange first, and then, if I'm not terribly burned out from that, doing a Big Bang that doesn't overlap with it, so as not to burn out writers too much.

Ooh ... Peggy Hawkins dance! Which would probably be too obscure for most people, but it really does fit. :D

I'd prefer to do a big bang at this stage just because I have some thinky that leans that way. The best way might be to stagger the word count options as 4k-7k (mini), 10k-15k (medium), 20k upwards (big) then that way everyone could give it a go. Entirely up to you :) I think that the last big bang I did the overall word count was around 7k minimum but I'd have to look back for that fic to check. As for the art side of things, I might be able to help out a little once I've relearnt photoshop and got an ease up in RL (full time job and post grad study just now).

At the moment I can't think of any name but I think that my other half still has some 1940s/WWII books that I can look through for some once he gets in from work.

Thank you for the input - it's appreciated! I definitely plan to have shorter (mini-bang) options in addition to the long one, to make it more accessible to people. And thank you VERY much for the art offer - I will definitely be needing artists. \o/

I think what I'm probably gonna do is run an exchange first (because I think it'll be logistically easier, and it's been a long time since I've run something like that) and then do the big bang later in the year, so they're not overlapping -- since it isn't a large fandom, I don't think it's a good idea to try to do two major fic events at the same time. I still need to settle on a name for the exchange, and then I'll be doing signups later in the month, I think.
