sholio: sun on winter trees (SGA-Sheppard rain)

(no subject)

Dropped off my partner at the airport ... he is off to Prague, of all places, for a conference. (Lucky guy!) Meanwhile, it's 30 below zero here, so I think he's picked a good time to get out of town. *shivers* There was a lovely aurora out tonight, though -- not the stringy little wisps of color we've been getting lately, but the real thing: shimmering green curtains of light, rippling across the sky.

Prompts have all been emailed out for [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon. If you signed up and didn't receive a prompt (or if you're not sure if you signed up or not), please contact me.

I've voted in the Stargate Fan Awards ... have you?

Voting is over for the Skiffy Awards, but I've just recently found out that I won several of them. Follow the link to see the list of winners and their stories!

Congrats on your many, many wins! Many, many, many...!

Thank you! I hope it doesn't look like I'm going overboard with the self-promoting here, but if they've given me award(s), it seems only fair to promote *them* right back.

[identity profile] iamrighthere.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
You have a lot to be proud of! Of course you should promote yourself. Look: You write and write and put your heart into your work. To have that work recognized is a beautiful thing and, aside from feedback from readers, it is the only remuneration you will receive. So, hey, go ahead and self-promote.

Also, I like that there is another awards pot boiling out there. If the Stargate Fan Awards are Oscars, then the ones you got could be considered Golden Globes or something. I didn't know they existed until I read your post, so, yes, you are promoting them and maybe next year more people will nominate and vote.

I want pictures of Aurora. I've never seen Aurora before. I can swap you pictures of Red sunsets if I could ever find the photos. (And that's not just cause they're packed in a box somewhere) I'm positive I had some taken on the farm when I was growing up.

You can see some of my husband's aurora photos here: [page 1] (http://lawlor.cs.uaf.edu/~olawlor/photos/places/Alaska/Fairbanks/2006/aurora/2006_01_25/assorted/index.html), [page 2] (http://lawlor.cs.uaf.edu/~olawlor/photos/places/Alaska/Fairbanks/2006/aurora/2006_01_25/northeast_magenta/index.html), [page 3] (http://lawlor.cs.uaf.edu/~olawlor/photos/places/Alaska/Fairbanks/2006/aurora/2006_01_25/north_longseries/index.html). They're a little grainy from the long exposure; we need a better camera. :D

Congratulations on your many many well-deserved awards! Thanks for sharing your work and your talents!
Love, max

You're welcome~! Thank you for the congrats, and for all the comments on my stories. :)

Congrats! And also, if you ever take photos of the aurora, I would love to see.

Someone else asked too, so I posted some links to my husband's aurora photos -- that comment is here. (http://friendshipper.livejournal.com/111026.html?thread=2258354#t2258354) They're taken from our front yard.

Gorgeous! Oh, man, that must be some sight to see... I hope I get to some day.

Are they always green, or do you see them in different colors too?

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-02-04 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
...and that was me.

They're mostly green, but will often have other colors skirting the edges of the green -- white and purple are the most common, and sometimes red. It's possible for the entire aurora to be red and purple, but as many auroras as I've seen, I've never seen that (although my sister has).

Well, congrats! I already knew your stories were the best! ;)

I haven't voted yet in the fan awards. I think I need to choose only a few categories I feel strongly about and with stories I've either read or aren't very long. I have too little time to give each category the attention it deserves.

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-02-04 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :)

I found that in a lot of categories, there was at least one story that had really "wow'd" me this year, so it wasn't too difficult. The categories where I didn't really know most of the stories were a lot more time-consuming.

[identity profile] sgatazmy.livejournal.com 2008-02-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I always worry about voting in the one's that wow me though. I want to give every story a chance for me to read it. I don't want to just read only that story in the category because I know I loved that one. Otherwise I'm tempted to only vote for stories you or Tipper wrote since all your stories wow me and there are many categories with them.

And I think it is different for me because I really didn't read a lot of fics this year. So I don't know. I've now voted in two categories and in one of them my knee jerk reaction to vote for turned out not to be my fav in the end. That was really surprising!

Meanwhile, it's 30 below zero here

I'm on Maui and kids were making snowmen in Haleakala National Park a few days ago. No kidding. *g*

Congrats on the Skiffy Awards. 'Old Soldiers die Hard' is one of my all-time favorite fics. Well deserved!!

Snowmen in Hawaii? Eek! There is no escape from winter! :D

Congratulations on the wins! They are richly deserved. ♥ (And is it just me, or are they very confused on the fact that you are not actually two different people?)

I've voted in a couple of the SFA categories, but my browser HATES their page with a passion, and I got so fed up with having all my logins everywhere vanish just to be able to get one page there to load that I really haven't been doing it much lately.

Heh. Yeah. I have sent an email and left an LJ comment to that effect, and I suppose they'll either fix it or they won't. *I* know I'm one person and I suppose that's what counts. :D

I have never been happy with the Stargate Fan Awards website. I have trouble staying logged in, too, and I also find it difficult to navigate around. On the other hand, after just getting through sending out prompts to 55 people for the genficathon, I can't even imagine how complicated it must be to administer something with that many participants. *shudders*

As long as you know you're one person, I'd say you're good! *g*

The website - the navigation I could deal with, but the fact that the page just won't load? It's really odd - I've never had that happen to me with any other page! And it's not just Firefox, either. Internet Explorer has the same problems. Incredibly odd, and it does make it very difficult to vote. I'm seriously impressed by the whole organization, it's not that, but - I wish there was a code-lite version or something of the page for those experiencing frequent browser malfunctions. Though with the voting, I'm not quite sure how that would work... Anyway. I won't give up on my attempts to vote - there are too many wonderful fanworks to explore out there!

Congrats on the stories you won in Skiffy contest. You were right, you did win a lot of them. There were others there that were my favorite as well, but there were a few of yours there that I thought were really good and I'm glad they got an award.
