Back in Fairbanks! And I managed to dodge most of the goddawful rain/snow/ick and squeaked through in a comparatively stable spell. Except for a heavy fog between Wasilla and Trapper Creek (which is about an hour and a half of a 6-hour drive), the pavement was dry and I cruised through most of it at 75 mph.

It's definitely winter in Denali now:



And a walk with the pets (doing their "Incredible Journey" impression) in the melting driveway this evening. So springlike!

My cousin used to live in Wasilla! Possibly also Palmer? I would rather associate it with you and her than with Sarah Palin, in any case. :P

hahaha .... poor Wasilla. Although quite a lot of the town consists of strip malls and rednecks, so at least it has a claim to fame that isn't "methamphetamine capital of Alaska" or something.* XD

*(The meth capital of Alaska is widely known to be North Pole, anyway -- it's a little town just south of here.)

Hah! I've never actually been despite having had multiple Alaskan friends and family. But I know the Canadian version. :D And was all "Wait a second!" when Wasilla became briefly (inter)nationally famous.

Wow, it was 34C here today and we're under the earliest ever bushfire warning (the cool change has hit, though, so we'll be fine) so it's lovely to look at these chilly photos.

Our fire season is just winding down, and wasn't nearly as bad as anticipated in most of the state. Fingers crossed that yours isn't too bad!

After today's weather, I want to jump in that snow and roll around. /does not know one single thing about snow and would probably die up there.

haha! A little bit of rolling in snow is fine; I usually want to do it myself after a fluffy snowfall. :D
