Ray Vecchio Squee Party

From now through the weekend (or 'til all the guests go home) I'm hosting a RayV squee party, for Ray Vecchio from Due South! Come on in!

Rules:

1. No RayK or pairing bashing. Fans of all Rays are welcome, with the understanding that the emphasis is on RayV love this time around.

2. I've put up some top-level threads (linked below) but feel free to start your own thread at any time. Want to have a meta discussion about the ghosts in the show, talk in detail about a specific episode, or add a thread for a pairing I didn't mention? Go ahead and make your own! I'll update the list of top-level threads periodically as new ones are added.

3. Linking is fine -- encouraged, even! The more the merrier.

Also notice there is a newbie Q&A thread for people who aren't familiar with the show. If you'd like to ask questions without risking a bunch of spoilers, you can do so here! (DW version) This is also the place for general questions, if you have any.

That's it! Have fun!

No spoilers here, just answers to your questions, such as "which episodes should I watch first?" or "I like [x] in my shows, does Due South have [x]?"

Episode rewatch:

You can watch episodes at vidzi.tv, Youtube (Season 1 playlist; all seasons playlist), or buy it on Amazon (where it is currently only $9.99 for the whole thing!).

Episodes for rewatching:
(You can watch some, all, or none of these.)
1. The pilot
2. 1x17, "The Deal"
3. 1x20-22, "Victoria's Secret" parts 1 & 2, and "Letting Go" (3-parter)
4. 2x01, "North"

For first-time viewers, 1x10, "The Gift of the Wheelman", is also recommended before watching "North", as it sets up a few things that are important in the latter episode. "North" is basically an h/c episode extraordinaire, but it DOES rely on a certain amount of character context.

Guys, feel free to put up threads for some or all of these, if you get to it before I do!

I actually saw the show first run...on CBS? And didn't get to see the revival/RayK years for years because it was picked up by a channel we didn't get.

I did not know about the show in real time at all, not even a whisper, but started hearing about it ten years later when I was already in slash fandoms. I think it was hanarobi who convinced me to watch it, and on her rec I think I found a deal on the DVDs and went ahead and bought them. I had been hearing about the fanfic because some of the writers I knew from The Sentinel also wrote in Due South. Also I believe I stumbled across the characters in fanfic by people like Dashamte who used them in crossovers -- this was before I had any idea who they were.

I mainlined the show one winter about five or six years ago when we had a long period of being snowed in -- work being cancelled, etc. Which was utterly perfect as a backdrop for watching it!

Then I inhaled all the fic I could find. I love all of it. I definitely swing both Rays. For some reason I was not moved to write it, but I adore it and am so glad it's still so active. Thank you for doing this.

It really is surprisingly active! I've been amazed by the fact that that thing I posted has been getting a decent amount of notes. I had no idea. (Pleasant surprise, though!)

The whole running joke with the Riv getting destroyed was one of my favorite things about the series.

Heee, I love this (and the car). There was a very similar car parked on the street where I grew up and I would always look at it and think of the show. :)

(Man, I'm realizing now I did way more of that when I was younger-- looking at the world around me and thinking how my TV shows relate to it. I still do it some, of course, but it was more... immediate/present when I was a kid? Not sure if that's the right word to describe it.)

I'd forgotten that too! And it WAS destroyed—once I think I actually knew how many times!
