Interesting! I'm a Vetinari fan myself. And I actually frequently like manipulative characters. Maybe it's just that he's engineered a situation that's so cruel to Darien. I think I prefer my manipulative characters to be working for, if not good, then at least no great evil. But who knows, maybe I'll end up liking him after all.
