I fell headfirst into a giant pile of Captain America comics SEND HELP
Sooooo this past week I went out and bought an enormous stack of Captain America TPBs. (DON'T JUDGE ME. A GIRL HAS NEEDS. XD)
I mostly stopped buying superhero comics about a decade ago, having wandered away due to getting sucked into indy comics much more heavily, and then DC's reboot/retcon of Justice League International was the final nail in that particular coffin. (I haven't bought a DC book since then. I am STILL bitter about it.) However, I was always more of a Marvel fan anyway, and I have been slowly wandering back over the last couple of years -- not with huge comics-fan intensity (well, er, prior to the last week), but there is some really good stuff coming out of Marvel right now.
ratcreature turned me onto Mark Waid's Daredevil, which is really great, and now I've found that I really enjoy Brubaker's Captain America as well. It helps that I really like the art, which is very moody and chiaroscuro and heavily photo-referenced -- I realize this wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I find the general effect very pleasing, and with comics, art is frequently the thing that makes or breaks a book for me.
Anyway, if you are a comics-reading sort of person, I definitely recommend the Captain America: Winter Soldier TPB; it's the start of Brubaker's run on the book, which makes it a good jumping-on point and kicks off a fairly coherent and self-contained storyline (by Marvel standards), as well as having a very obvious connection to the movie's plotline.
This takes place shortly after the comics version of the end of the movie; Steve and Sharon are running around pursuing Bucky sightings. (Sorry about the craptastic scan - I had trouble getting the book to lie flat.)

AWWWWW STEEEEEVE. ♥ (I think what really gets me here is that he hadn't said anything; he was stubbornly insisting to everybody that Bucky was still out there somewhere, but he wasn't sure.)
I have a post half written comparing the movie's story to the comics version, although I like both of them for different aspects of the story. I absolutely loved the movie -- it's gone straight up to nest securely in my list of top three Marvel movies that I can't choose between -- and I prefer the movieverse to the comics for some things (especially the movieverse versions of both Nick Fury and Black Widow) but I like comics!Bucky somewhat better and really love the way his arc has developed over the post-Winter Soldier era. (If we get even a small part of this in the next movie, I will be so happy.)

I will look forward to your post comparing movie to comics when you finish writing it, because that sounds very interesting to me!

I will make that post, but first I have to read 11 billion comics apparently.
