So this is how my week went
Me, on Monday: I shall be virtuous and block access to the Internet until I finish my novel!
The Internet: Muahahahahaaaaaa.
... and so I woke up on Tuesday morning to find that we had neither internet nor phone, because of local highway flooding. We STILL have no internet (though the phone is back). I drove into town tonight to use the wireless at Barnes & Noble.
I hate to admit it, but as irritating as it is not to be able to hop online and check my email whenever I want, I've been SO productive over the last few days. The internet has pretty clearly become my default displacement activity -- that is, if I'm slightly bored or stuck on a plot point or avoiding something I don't particularly want to do, I go online. Well, now I'm forced to find other ways of procrastinating, which involves things like cleaning the bathroom. There is part of me that wants the internet back desperately, and part of me that kinda hopes it stays down for another couple of weeks.
(No, that's a lie. I totally want it back.)
