First off, I keep forgetting to mention this, but
run_the_con looks like a really fun White Collar game! Basically, you sign up, and then at some point in the next few weeks you'll be "tagged" by one of the other players and given a prompt, and you'll have 24 hours to write and post your story. And then you'll "tag" someone else. Signups are open through Nov. 3.
Today is the first day of NaNoWriMo. I'm not doing it in any official capacity, but I'm going to try to achieve NaNo-esque word counts on a variety of projects this month. I'm off to a fantastic start so far. *cough*has written nothing*cough* Who among you is doing NaNo this year? I know several of you are doing something unofficial-but-similar. (I've done it unofficially in 2007 and 2012, but I've never actually done it officially. Which is just as well, because I've never actually achieved 50,000 words in the month, either! At least not on a single project ...)
Meanwhile, Yuletide signups are now closed. I always feel a little smidge of regret when I don't participate, but for me ... hmm, I think Yuletide only makes sense in years when I'm really invested in a particular small fandom or two, if that makes any sense. The way I do fandom, it's not about writing fic for fic's sake, it's about writing in the particular fandom-of-my-heart (whatever that happens to be at the moment), and Yuletide really isn't about that. The first year I did it, I got that one awesome fic that I had been pining for my whole life, and after that, I haven't really felt terribly compelled to sign up. Not that I didn't enjoy the other years I did it; I stretched myself and wrote in entirely new-to-me fandoms each time, but it's not something I feel like doing every year. Though it's always fun to browse the shiny new fic on the 25th, since there's always something for several of the beloved shows/books/whatever of my youth. ♥
I'm also curious if anyone would be interested in a White Collar holiday exchange? As a fandom, it's too big to be eligible for Yuletide, but it doesn't seem to have any winter-holiday exchanges of its own. Last year there was an exchange at CollarCorner -
kriadydragon, were you interested in doing something like that again?
ETA: Oh, I knew there was something else I wanted to mention!
sage is starting a casefic writing workshop that looks very fun and informative.
