Shiva the Destroyer strikes again

Shiva is our cat. He is named for his habit of, well, destroying stuff. I've seriously lost count of how many pairs of my headphones he's eaten. (I always use headphones for listening to music or watching DVDs at the computer so as not to bother other people in the house.) For a while, I put a stop to that by locking them up in my desk drawer at night, but I kept forgetting to put them away -- which is how the last couple of pairs died; it only took one night of forgetting to wake up to a discombobulated pair of headphones. Eventually, I started taking the easier method of putting a pile of books on top of them and tucking the cord under the keyboard when I'd walk away from the computer. The back of my computer, where the headphone jack plugs in, is a little difficult to reach, but there are always lots of books around my work surface, which made this much easier than having to detach it every time.

This worked great until I got up this morning and found that the little bastard had finally caught on. He'd teased the cord out from under the keyboard (things were all shifted around) and, yep, chewed the bejeezus out of it.

*sigh* Guess I'll be getting another pair of $4 headphones from Fred Meyer after work today. Has anybody on my flist tried using cordless headphones? Do they work well? It's the cords that he always destroys ... he likes to dangle the headphones off the desk and attack the cord until he "kills" it.
