1. Damn you, Community! There is so much DO NOT WANT in this show -- there are scenes and whole episodes that just make me cringe and cover my eyes and go "please, show, just ... don't do that, please." And yet it hits my narrative kinks SO HARD ... often in the same episodes that go to horrible, horrible places of offensive DO NOT WANT. *facepalm*
2. That meta fest that
trobadora and I were talking about earlier - there is now a comm and a list of rules/deadlines -
month_of_meta/
month_of_meta! There will be a signup sheet in mid-February. (I can't believe it's February already, how did this happen.)
3. Another thing going on right now is
casestory/
casestory! 10,000+ words of casefic in any fandom (or original fiction) by May! They also need artists. I just signed up as an artist and I am so tempted to sign up as an author as well, but I wanted to have a rough draft of original novel #2 by the end of March, so I'm trying to be strong.
4. I keep meaning to write up a post about Barbara Hambly's Benjamin January books and why they're awesome, but someone already did it at
smallfandomfest. (Contains mild spoilers, mostly in terms of general trends in character development over the first few books.) This is one of my absolute favorite series right now; the books are very well written, with fabulous period detail, and also push down my "friendship/found family" buttons like whoa. (Though I'm re-reading the first few books and had forgotten that the second book is incredibly depressing. If you do try reading this series on my recommendation and find yourself stalling out in the second book, don't give up! The series in general has emotional ups and downs, but the emotional nadir is in the first couple of books; things trend upwards from there.)
5. Why do I never seem to remember that revisions always take ten times longer than I think they should?
