Awww, Heroes, c'mon! We finally get some really awesome Nathan & Peter (& Claire!) h/c and ... it turns out it was evil!Peter all along. COME ON, SHOW. NOT FAIR!

Not that I didn't enjoy those scenes a lot anyway. (Evil!Peter does love Nathan and Claire, in his own totally creepy and messed-up way.)

I haven't really felt like talking about Heroes much, so I'll probably go back to radio silence shortly ... just had to say that, though.


Also, we're watching Heroes completely unspoiled, so please no spoilers for future episodes in comments, not even hints - thank you! :)

Oh, Nathan survived s2? Somehow I thought he didn't ^^; Or was s1 when he got blown up? Or...something. (After Claire and her father, Nathan was my favorite...but I didn't have the impression he was going to last...)

Er ... a little of both? Heh. (Like I said to my sister in email after watching season two, they kill Nathan every season! It's just a thing!)

Nathan is my favorite, too, along with Claire, and like you, I have the same deep-seated fear that he's going to die (now tempered by some spoilery stuff I shouldn't talk about ^^). Perhaps because Claire canonically can't die, and Peter probably can't, and together the three of them, as a family(ish) unit, push a lot of my buttons, so I figure Nathan's the expendable one, the one who will probably get killed off to cause the others angst. Also, he's definitely got "REDEEMABLE VILLAIN TURNED TRAGIC HERO" signposted all over him ...

Yeah, it was the redemption thing that made him feel so DOOOOOMED...stupid American media, where 99% of the time a noble death is the only way to get properly redeemed. I quite prefer the Japanese-media redemption of becoming best friends with the hero XD

I haven't watched any episodes of Heroes. Is it worth a look?

Well, we're really enjoying it. It's a good show for me and the husband to watch together (as opposed to White Collar, which I think he finds a little too much of a girl show for his tastes). I loved the first season, found the second one kind of "meh", and my sister (the one who originally rec'd Heroes to me in the first place) says that most of her favorite stuff happens in season three, so I have high hopes for it!

Yeahhh, redemption-by-death, definitely not one of my favorite tropes. XD Actually, er, how much do you mind Heroes spoilers? Because I think they're actually playing with that trope a little bit with Nathan, but I can't really talk about it without majorly spoiling some of the stuff that happens at the end of the second season.

Well, what I noticed about it even while I was watching the episode is that they'd set it up as an absolutely classic redemption-via-death scenario, so heavy-handed that they had to have been doing it on purpose. In the span of just an episode or two, Nathan gets in touch with his inner hero, reconciles with Peter (with hugging and declarations of love!), etc etc - the show could hardly have been more obvious about it if they'd been waving big flags saying NATHAN IS GOING TO DIE. Actually, they were being so obvious about it that even though the show has a get-out-of-death-free card that a couple of characters have used so far (I'm not sure if you stopped watching it before they introduced the transmissible properties of Claire's powers - all it takes is a transfusion of her blood to bring someone back from the dead - my sister calls it the Heroes version of dragonballs XD) I was semi-expecting that it wouldn't work in Nathan's case, because they'd just been SO OBVIOUS about tying up the loose ends of Nathan's emotional arc.

Not only is he back from the dead, though, it happened in a way that I didn't see coming: Peter had already done the Claire's-blood thing on him once already (after Peter incinerated them both at the end of season one), but what hadn't been obvious up to this point is that once you've gotten Claire's powers, they don't go away -- so all this time I've been worrying about Nathan getting killed, he's been basically unkillable. XD I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the show coming up with some way of killing him in the future - his regenerative powers seem to be a lot slower/less effective than Claire's, for one thing, and evil!Peter has not only decided he's expendable but has actively tried to kill him once already, though Nathan is unaware of this. But at least, if he does die, he's definitely not going down easily.

MORE SPOILERS! Evil!Peter is a version of Peter from a seriously dystopic future (... yeah, another one) who came back in time to save the future by killing Nathan, since this particular dystopia is Nathan's fault (sort of; it's more like a case of good intentions gone horribly wrong). He shot Nathan, and Nathan went ahead and bled to death (with lots of freaking out from Peter - who did just kill his own brother, after all - and Claire, who watched it happen on TV, knew her blood could save him but couldn't get there) except he didn't stay dead. Presumably evil!Peter needs a new plan now.

Wait, wait, a transfusion from Claire brings the dead back to life (...within a time limit, or...?) and then they STAY healing-power-able??? That is to say, it is conceivable that the entire human race could be made immortal?!? (let me guess, Claire must keep her powers super-secret now so she's not trapped in a lab and bled dry...)(...has she at least given a transfusion to all her friends and loved ones?!)

So is Nathan's redemption sticking post-survival or is he reverting to his less moral ways now?

No, that would be too logical. *g*

But the thing is, only a handful of people know that Claire's blood can be used to heal people, and I'm pretty sure that, at this point, no one except Peter knows that the effect lingers beyond the initial infusion of blood. Nathan himself doesn't seem to realize that Claire's blood is the reason he's still alive (actually *I'm* just guessing that's what brought him back, but I can't really think of anything else that could have caused it), because he didn't know about his first transfusion, either.


So is Nathan's redemption sticking post-survival or is he reverting to his less moral ways now?

*giggles helplessly* He's actually gone total crazypants in the other direction - he's basically found Jesus (I'm not kidding; he thinks that God brought him back to life) and decided that he's going to Fix All The World's Problems. It is, on the one hand, completely adorable in a Nathan-esque, deeply messed-up kind of way, but it's also the sort of thing that makes you go *headdesk headdesk* because obviously there is NO WAY this is going to end well.

Four seasons, I'm pretty sure, and it finished its run a year or two ago.
