Vid insta-rec
I just watched this - When I Was a Boy (Doctor Who, Amy & Amy/Rory) by
beccatoria and oh - I had to come and drop a rec for it, because it's gorgeously vidded and Amy/Rory is really the perfect couple to vid this song to!
... DW comes back soon, yeah? The Eleventh Doctor and Amy are such an interesting example of how fandom can turn you around on a character in a positive way -- when I first started watching series 5, I really couldn't get into either Eleven or Amy as characters. What finally sold me on them was not just some of the later developments in the show itself, but even more than that, all the rampant squee for Amy, and for Eleven, and all the absolutely gorgeous vids for them! (DW has the best vidders - I think that of all the fandoms I've been in, it's the one with the most consistently high-quality vids, and the vids that are most likely to end up in my "frequent rewatch" folder.) In any case, though I'm still a bit "meh" about Eleven, I love Amy (and Rory, oh Rory ♥) and I can't wait for new episodes with them!
Also, I do keep meaning to put up a (rather extensive) post of HL recs; I just haven't found time to get around to writing it. I should probably just start dropping a couple recs here and there, rather than waiting 'til I can get them all written up ...

Heh, I'm the opposite, I'm still a bit meh on Amy - but I <3 Amy & Rory a thousand times more as a couple than as not, and I think at least 50% of my reservations about the new new Who is lingering fear that the show will eventually break them up...though after the last season's end maybe I should stop dreading that and just enjoy having a married couple on the TARDIS. I actually do quite like Eleven, though - he's so much more alien than Ten but that intrigues me, and while I wish they had cast a more different actor, I think Matt Smith does a dynamite job of being agelessly old for all his youth (

It took me awhile to warm up to either Amy or Eleven. Rory I pretty much fell for right off the bat; he's adorable. I think my big problem with Eleven/Matt Smith is still that he's so similar in many ways to Ten. That's fascinating, though, to compare Matt Smith to PW's young/old thing - now that I've seen Highlander, I need to watch the new Who episodes with that in mind and see what my brain does with it ...
I'm so worried that Amy and Rory will break up - but, honestly, I think in Moffat's hands they have a pretty good shot at happiness, even if they go through short-term rough patches. Moffat's a romantic through and through. (If Russell T. Davies was still running the show, they'd be utterly doomed. XD)

Yeah, that was my big problem with him for the first half of the season. The second half...something clicked and I started to see him as wholly different - his look may be similar, but he's hardly the same guy - he's more, hmm, removed? in his interactions - he still loves his Companions, but he doesn't bond with them on the same human level that Ten did. He's not amused by quite the same things, and he's also a lot less prone to angst and drama. He's got some of Methos's been-there done-that approach - not that he doesn't feel, but that when he lets himself get swept away by feelings it's maybe more deliberate. And he deals with people differently - barging out and hauling Rory into the TARDIS when Amy kissed him, I don't think Ten would've handled it like that.
...Ahh, it's...subtle? But, yeah, I do see where you're coming from, but keep giving him a chance, with luck he'll grow on you!

XD This is...quite true. I have to remember that while I have my issues with Moffat, there are things about his writing that I do prefer to RTD's ^^

Hee, yeah ... I definitely have issues with Moffat, starting with his (het) romance-based approach to plotting. I particularly miss RTD's much more creatively and sexually diverse universe. But what I don't miss about RTD is that he's almost as blatant as Whedon that no character is ever allowed to be happy for too long. *g* Moffat seems to be a total sucker for a happy ending.
