About the knife ... okay ... I originally had a line in there (a few paragraphs after the knife originally getting stabbed in his wrist) that referred to the knife being wrenched out when he fell. This confused my beta, and looking at it objectively I decided that she was right and there was nothing to be gained by referring back to it. That is, it wasn't important enough to the story to keep distracting from the flow by bringing it up.
I think we can figure that John *is* in pain but (being John) he's too busy going into badass mode to really notice it. Kind of like in "Defiant One" or "Long Goodbye" where he's running around with bullet wounds, but doesn't really seem to notice. Adrenaline or something. Yeah, that's it. ;)
