I do love warnings but the truth is I didn't become the warning nut that I am until I ran into stories that... er... introduced me to my triggers (and that skipping over the "icky" parts doesn't always work). There were two stories that contained content that ended up leaving me feeling icky and left unwanted images in my brain for over a year. And only recently have those images been purged enough from my brain so that they no longer pop up unexpectedly and at the worst possible times.
However, it was all entirely my fault, because there had been warnings, I just didn't take them seriously (or, in the case of one of the stories, was unsuccessful in skipping over the scene.)
But both stories made me a practical warning junky. I know the pain of running into things that squick monumentally, and would hate for my stories to put people through the same. At the same time, because sometimes a warning will give something vital away, I've taken up the practice of putting warnings elsewhere (at the end of short stories, under coding) if the warning is a spoiler.
