Smart choice. I've been trying to back off from SGA fandom a bit more lately -- the overall attitude in the fandom is pretty similar to how it was in late season 3 (lots of free-floating angst and upset with the show's direction), and like then, it's really starting to affect my enjoyment of the show. I think I would have been unhappy with this episode in any case (Tipper didn't like it either, and she's one of the most show-positive people I know!) but overall, I know that the fandom's unhappiness is dragging me down. I tried to re-watch some choice bits of "Shrine" the other day, for example, and found that I wasn't enjoying it at all because the episode had been so thoroughly shredded by some segments of the fandom. And, you know, when it gets to that point -- when the fandom is no longer a positive thing for me, when it's coming between me and a show I enjoy, even making me dislike episodes I'd loved -- then it's time to take a step backwards! I still enjoy the show, I still have ideas for fanfic (and I'm signed up for two holiday ficathons; I need to get writing!) and I enjoy discussing it with like-minded people like yourself and Meg, but participating in the wider fandom is just making me unhappy. Which makes it pretty stupid for me to keep going there!
