Well, my type, as my brother determined some time ago, is total bad-asses, so Dean wasn't a total surprise...but he is so much more than he seems at first. And yes, self-sacrifice and self-hatred are Dean's middle names. Along with 'over-protective' - ahh the end of Nightmare is just... *siiiigh*

...and oh, my, indeed, he is awful pretty. He's got luminescent orbs! It's quite distracting... ^_^
